Commercial Description:
While there is a great malty foundation to this brew, Mike’s Double IPA showcases his appreciate for hops. In fact, he included seven different varieties of American hops, totaling over six pounds of hops per barrel. The hops add an intense floral and citrus aroma to this brew.

Pours a beautiful copper orange color with a thick, slightly orange head. Aroma is floral, green, citrus, heavy notes of grapefruit and a little pine. the malt is thick in this beer as well. Big malt presence even on the nose. Flavor was very hoppy, fairly bitter, and then balanced out with some good sweet malt. This had some intense flavors going on in it though. Almost like both the hops and the malt got turned up to 11. Decent but might do well with a little aging.

Nice copper and light amber coloured body with a dense thick tan head. Aroma of piney and floral hops with a plentiful amount of malt and a good dose of alcohol and light fruits. Full-bodied; Strong astringent hoppy flavour in the mouth with strong alcohol and a very beefy malt backbone; some oak and bittering sugars come out near the end - but all shows toward the hops. Aftertaste is potent and bitter, but the hops definitely mean well. Overall, a pretty good double IPA - a bit less strong than most others, but still packs a punch! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased earlier today at Total Wine in Chantilly, Virginia on 11-July-2009, sampled at home in Washingotn.

Reviewed 6/24/2009 (bottle): Pours a opaque dark orange colored body, with a huge rocky off-white colored head, very lasting. Very hoppy aroma, grapefruity, bitter. Some Cascade. A little dusty smelling, but more green. Balanced with some sweetness too, not overly bitter smelling. Hoppy taste, bitter initial taste. Very sweet aftertaste. Bitter finish. Fresh tasting. Almost gritty tasting, very bitter, almost caustic. Letting warm up a bit.

I’m almost always disappointed with this brewer... I don’t know why I continue to try "new" offerings by them... that said... Pours amber with an inch of white head. WOW aroma! Soap, pine, and grapefruit... oh, will this be the turning point?! NO! Way too strong of a soap and pine flavor. Too much and I like strong IPas.

Pours a dark amber color with a medium off-white head that dissipates slowly. Aroma is lots of piney hops. Flavor is caramel sweetness up front that is quickly overtaken by citrusy and bittering hops. Nice bite in the finish. Not as complex as some DIPAs, but very drinkable.

12 oz.bottle courtesy of CelticBrew. Slightly hazy orange witha creamy, medium white head settling to a thin layer that persists nicely and leaving some decent strands of lace. Pine resin aroma over a layer of honey with a nice floral character. Medium to full body, lighlty carbonated, quite resinous, yet paradoxically smooth. Substantial malt character that results in a lot of sweetness up front, but the bitterness comes through with an assertive blast that lingers in the long finish. Quite nice.

Bottle. Pours hazy and cloudy orange with an average, frothy, off-white head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (grain, cereal, meal), heavy hops (flowers, perfume, citrus, pine), average yeast (sweat) with notes of peach, pear, and alcohol. Full bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness, heavy acidity and bitterness.

Certainly had hops. A nice copper color with a white head that hung around. Aroma had big pine notes and a noticeable citrus quality, some caramel malts. Flavor was good but seemed to be all hops needed a little more malty sweetness to it but otherwise it was decent. Finish was crisp and the body was full.
