Commercial Description:
While there is a great malty foundation to this brew, Mike’s Double IPA showcases his appreciate for hops. In fact, he included seven different varieties of American hops, totaling over six pounds of hops per barrel. The hops add an intense floral and citrus aroma to this brew.

Was extremely excited for this one based on what I’d heard on this site, but wow what a dissapointment it was. Some floral notes with lesser caramel, toffee but just didnt seem to come together at all. Felt like SA just wanted to prove that they could put as many hops in a beer as some of them micro breweries could and once they did they bottled it and sent it out.

Pours dark copper and a thin head that dissappated quickly. Smells nicely of floral hops and grapefruit. Decent malts but then the smells turns a bit sour after warming a bit. Mouthfeel is strangely oily and coating and the flavor is a bit floral and hoppy, yet astringent. The finish is bitter as well. There was so much potential, yet the beer just was off.

Poured from bottle. Nice, hoppy aroma. Orange-amber with persistent head and lacing. Nice jolt of hops in the flavor - pine and grapefruit notes, especially creamy feel. Great finish. All you could want in an IPA.

Pours a cloudy deep orange color with an even slightly off-white head. Aroma is a mix of muddy hops, hay, and alcohol. The taste is very earthy and hoppy, kind of reminiscent of 90 minute, maybe just a tad less sweet. Decent, perhaps may turn some of the wider beer-drinking populace to the DIPA style.

Hazy amber color with an off-white head leaving good lacing. Grapefruit, pine, and a lot of grassy aromas in the nose with a little bit of a caramel undertone. Taste is of sweet caramel malt, a touch of grain, and then a bunch of pine and grass. Medium body with medium carbonation. Pretty good beer. I’d drink this again, but just seems to have a bit too much maltiness for my liking.

Pours opaque golden copper with a halo of a cream colored head. Nose is pine, grapefruit, citrus rind and a touch of bready malt. Flavor is quite spicy and bitter, with some rind and a bit of caramel. Smooth on the palate with a lasting bitter finish.

Pours from 12 oz bottle a cloudy dark orange amber with a lively, sudsy, white head. Nose is no surprise--big and hoppy. Flavour shows floral and citrus hops at first, then a strong resin initially transitions to rich bready malts and underlying citrus/floral/grass hop taste, sour grapefruit and caramel come into the very bitter finish. A nice surprise from Boston Beer, lets see what they do with it....

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amber, small, fine off-white head. Aroma is right away pine and some subtle citrus notes. Citrus (grapefruit, orange), malt and a touch of pepper in the background. Finish is bitter, but not as much as some in this category.
