Commercial Description:
While there is a great malty foundation to this brew, Mike’s Double IPA showcases his appreciate for hops. In fact, he included seven different varieties of American hops, totaling over six pounds of hops per barrel. The hops add an intense floral and citrus aroma to this brew.

12 oz. bottle. Poured into a Sam Adams glass. Hops jump out as soon as I pop the top. Rarely do I get so much hop in a Sam brew. Cloudy brown-orange body, thin IPA type head. Taste brings out American hops with pineapple, grapefruit, and pine needles. Bit of alcohol, but also a thick mouth full of caramel malts. Surprising "extreme" beer from this outfit. Some day I will put a Utopias to my scrutiny, but until then, I can say this is the best Sam Adams beer I’ve had.

12oz bottle. Poured a medium cloudy amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Nice lacing left on the glass. Aromas of citrus, floral hops, some tropical fruits, and caramel. Tastes of citrus, spicy hops, floral, caramel, a little earthy, and pine. Hoppy burps. Light alcohol in the finish but overall well hidden.

Bottle. The simple description is Hops In A Glass. To put more words to that...cloudy orange/brown color, medium sized white head. Power packed nose of grapefruit, pine, lemon...hops. Tastes include citrusy hops, peppery hops, and piny hops with a hoppy finish. It leaves the mouth bittered, bruised, sticky, and tasting like you’ve just been drinking liquefied hops. In summary, it’s really good.

Bottle. Reel good pine and citrus aromas. Cloudy copper body with good he mild lace. Good citrus flavor but aweful dry hop bitter and the this sweet caramel malt presence takes away some the pleasure of an ipa for me anyway. Alricht to rick and sweet need theat cool and crisp.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy orange with a thick, creamy head. There are super tiny bubbles rising from the bottom, and only 60% light can get through. Aroma: Grapefruit, mangoes, brown sugar and pine. Taste: A mixture of bit, sweet and tangy hops, bring out flavors of pine, orange, grapefruit, lemon. Then a sturdy level of sweet caramel malts, finishes with an almost dry bitterness. The flavors linger well past the sip. Mouthfeel: Thick, no syrupy or sticky, borderlining on creamy. Overall: Well worth the year wait for this. I wouldn’t compare it to Pliny the Elder, I would say it is mighty fine on it’s own merits.

Bottle from StateLine. Poured into a snifter... Nice nose on this. Citrus, pine and some fruits. Red in color, small head. Taste is a fresh hop citrus and pine bite. Very nice (borat). Well balanced. Smooth and easy drinking. Overall a nice DIPA.

This is a very good double IPA. It’s a hazy dark golden pour with a frothy white head. The aroma of citrus and pine immediately greats you. The hop presence is great, but it also finishes very nicely.
