Pours a cloudy glowing orange with a frothy off white head that left some spotty lacing. Resin, herbal hops and sweet malt on the nose, maybe some spice as well? There is at least one hop in there I don’t think I’ve had before. Flavor is quite sweet with assertive hop bitterness. alexsdad06 (1082), Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 30, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy orange amber color with a medium sized dense off white head. The aroma aggressively flows from the glass with citrus and pine leading the way. With closer inspection the malt is there but subordinate to the hops. The flavor opens with a hint of the sweet caramel malt before being overwhelmed by the hops. Pine, grapefruit, citrus flavors abound with a strong bitterness to the finish. Medium/full bodied and solid mouthfeel. This may be the best Longshot I’ve had to date. I wish I didn’t have to buy the Cranberry Wit to get to this. Pailhead (2597), Allen Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 30, 2009 Bottle: The aroma is loaded with hops...lots of citrus and grapefruit hops with some caramel and a hint of mango. It pours a hazy, bordering on cloudy, dark a amber with an orange tinted off-white head that fades to a film within a minute or so. The flavor starts with a quick dose of moderate caramel and sweet orange. The finish is all hops with lots of grapefruit and some pine. Grapefruit aftertaste really lingers on the tongue for awhile. Full bodied with a sticky and syrupy mouthfeel. Ughsmash (4040), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 30, 2009 Bottled. Poured near-clear medium orange with a short-lived cap of white head. The aroma was thick and resiny with grapefruit, some catty character, and pine resin over caramel sweetness.. warmth accented the hops in a wonderful way. The flavor had a very sweet caramel and grapefruit meat base with huge doses of pine sap, grapefruit, and floral bitterness around.. balance was decent, and this sucka was hoppy! Thick-bodied and a bit syrupy on the palate with low-to-moderate carbonation.. resiny bitterness stuck until well after the finish and the booze factor amplified it.. decent feel, and it was definitely engaging. highibus (432), Mill Creek, Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Apr 30, 2009 Pours a real nice orange copper with somewhat frothy white head. Huge aroma of piney resin. Flavor is up front grassy hops dancing on my tongue. Back is somewhat muted malt and a very light dankness that I actually like. Somewhat chewy mouthfeel but not viscous at all. Some warmth from the alcohol but overall hidden pretty well. A real nice beer. I should try brewing this one. fredandboboflo (1418), East Setauket, New York, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 30, 2009 Bottle. Aroma of a pine-needle coated forest path at first with orange oil quickly appearing and gaining strength over time. Bready, caramel malt is there, but primarily in the background for the time being. Flavor is both huge hops and brings out huge malts with lots going on. High levels of bitterness with grapefruit, more pine, and some tart-bitter lemony notes combine with rich, nougaty malt. More and more layers become evident as peppery and earthy notes pop up toward the finish. Big, balanced, and above all quite complex. Well done to both Mike and Sam. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 29, 2009 Hazed amber orange color with a modest, but stable head of light taupe bubbles. Nice sheet of lace. Orange blossom scents are covered over with citrus and grapefruit zest. There is a small hint of toffee in the background. Dry caramel start. Herbal and licorice notes dominate the middle. Some grains and cedar also mingle. A bit earthy. Some grapefruit zest pricks and tingles the tongue. A bit of butter in the finish and linger. Some very strong flavors that don’t always seem balanced. Tejas (700), Dallas, Texas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 29, 2009 Pretty darn good. Wish it were on draught. Solid malty backbone on this dude but still plenty of hops. Alcohol hidden well.
