Commercial Description:
Created by Samuel Adams Employee Lili Hess, Hawaii This is a very creative spin on a pale ale. As Lili describes it, "It’s like you are drinking a pale ale after biting into a fresh green seedless grape." This delicate brew is light-bodied with unique sweet, yet dry flavors from the grapes. What a combination...

Bottle. Pours a weak, too lively amber with an aroma like a diet Heath bar- weak toffee, caramel, and sweet bread. Flavor is weak biscut with a hint of grape and raisin, malty finish with not much lingering after effect. Thin mouthfeel with a typical after-eating-a-grape sensation- rubbery sandpaper. Grape? I only detected it because the label said so.

12oz bottle. Ale brewed with grape flavors and maple syrup. Aroma of a second pressed riesling. Slight medicinal hop aroma. Flavor has a fruit sweetness along with some pale malt and a equally light hop bitterness. Not as impressed as with the other ’Long Shot’ beers.

Bottle from Sam’s Quik Stop in Durham. Pours brown-ish read with a medium sized head. Disappears quickly but leaves a nice lacing. Strong aroma of cinnamon and other spices, with a hint of maple. Taste is sweet with some graininess and a dry finish. Honey/maple comes through on the aftertaste, Kind of a thick feel. Better than your average Sam Adams.

12oz Bottle - 99 Bottles - Federal Way, WA
Aroma – Light pale ale aroma very little of the fruit comes through.
Appearance – Light golden color, Nice thin head and clear.
Flavor – Light pale ale flavor with very little to no fruit flavor.
Palate – Good Mouthfeel, Nice texture with a dry finish.
Overall – If this was a fruit beer I missed it. I did not taste one ounce of fruit nor anything that had fruit in it. Just a plain pale ale flavor.

Bottle from the sixer. The pour was golden in color, nice head and lacing, fairly typical, though for a PA. The aroma was grapes, sweetness, maybe a touch of wheat. The flavor was mostly grapes, light grassy hops, and some grains. Overall, the grape flavor was somewhat extract-y, not a killer great beer, but ok. Meh.

12oz bottle. pours clear golden with white head. nose is biscuity with some mild hoppy and sweet malt notes. flavor is hardly grape, i wouldnt guess grape at least, very clean and inoffensive straight forward pale ale. a bit sweeter with the addition of the fruit but not much. why did this win?

2/16/2008: Sam Adams LongShot Grape Pale Ale by Lili Hess has a clear, golden color with a dense and creamy light yellow head that leaves good lacing. The aroma hs some pale malt and seems slightly grainy but the malty sweetness is definitely noticeable. The flavor has a nice combination of doughy malt, sweet syrup, hints of banana and caramel, mild floral hops, and plenty of white grape flavor and sweetness. The finish is crisp and slightly dry. This beer has a medium body and is really smooth. It has a slick texture and glides right down. Overall this beer is tasty and refreshing. The grape flavor is definitely prominent (this beer tastes a lot like white grape juice at first). This is an interesting brew, but it needs more hop flavor and bitterness to really classify it as a Pale Ale...

Congrats to Ms. Hess! This is a unique beer that is refreshing and fun to drink. Keep brewing!

12 fl. oz. bottle (?% ABV; Enjoy before July 2008) from the 2007 LongShot 6-pack. Purchased at Party Town in Bellevue, Kentucky. Rating: 6/4/7/3/14=3.4.

Clear medium amber, decent head. Aroma is faintly of sweetish malts, some balancing hop bitterness, and faint tannic astringency. Flavor is pretty much a standard amber ale, malty, with some balancing hop bitterness. Not sure I could have picked out grape, but there is something very faintly astringent on the tongue that may be from the grape. Not bad, easy drinker. Would have liked a striking Muscat flavor, but it just isn’t there.
