On the front end of the palate, sweet, green grapes. At mid-palate shift is to the bitter hops. Mild hops. Unique. SudsMcDuff (1709), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 24, 2008 a very queer little beer... pours a basic orange-light brown colour .. good head, some dissipation ... somewhat muted aroma, some light sweetness, could a A grape?... Taste is muddled, overly sweet and strangely bittered- doesn’t seem to fit the name or style.. a big disappointment, i can see why a Sam Adams employee won the right for this to be brewed... it doesn’t suck and is somewhat enjoyable but needs something...? | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Feb 28, 2008 I don’t find this beer to be excessively sweet, it is quite fruity though. One gets the impression of grape skin on the finish that blends with the very light hops in an interesting way. Might be worth a shot if you’re desperate for something new. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 12, 2008 12 oz bottle...Amber with barely a head...just some scattered bubbles and a tracing around the glass where beer meets foam...cider/wine mixed aroma...sour apples...sweet and light with an infantile syrup quality....delicate lacing forming....I gave the appearance a 4 because for this style the lacing is appreciated....Flavor is nice--apples , light malt...but it ends a little thin and watery...nice effervescence...I do taste the grapes, mainly in the finish and a hint in the aroma...the delicate lacing sticks through its entirety, so the 4 sticks as well...Metallic finish in the very last sip...thus changing my original 13 to a 12....sorry Lili Hess natedoggkc (164), Lenexa, Kansas, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Feb 13, 2008 Pours copper with medium white head. Aroma is slight hop, more malt, very little grape. Aroma is similar to a beer of the Mediterranean. Taste of mild hops, some sweetness, and a slight funk on the finish. I have to really try my hardest to find the grape in this one. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 29, 2009 Bottle. An amber body with an off white head. Thin with a fruity grape start with some subtle woodiness and caramel malt. Mmm SA never makes great fruit beers, im sure this was much better small batch. ChainGangGuy (2616), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 11, 2008 Now, I DO like Pales, and I DO like grapes... but!
Appearance: Pours a clear copper body with a small, fizzy white head.
Smell: Bready malt aroma with a touch of caramel and a handful of white grapes.
Taste: Gah! Caramel malt with a slice of toasted bread. Medium maple syrup sweetness. Grape flavor more in the sense of chewing up a grapeskin. Light bitterness fails to balance the sweetness present. Finishes pretty sweet.
Mouthfeel: A hair under medium for the body, a hair over medium for the carbonation.
Drinkability: A plain pale ale hampered with grape flavor and a bit more sweetness than needed. fakepurseninja (792), Washington, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 11, 2008 Really torn on this drink - spome great aspects, some terrible - problem is they are inseperable. Great pale ale malt backbone, nice bready light malt character. The drink is dominated by cloying sweetness akin to high fructose corn syrup that is omnipresent. Grape is in there, hard to find, but the maple sweetness is very evident. A decent pale ale that is flawed with to many varied bits.
