Aroma is light with maple syrup. Taste is nice, but nothing too special. Not sure how this one was declared winner. grimreeser (797), Minnesota, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Mar 4, 2008 Pours a clear light amber with a smallish head. Aroma is caramel and grass. Tingles on the tounge, dry, light sweetness. Don’t really get any grape. unclemattie (2442), Georgia, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | May 10, 2008 12oz bottle. Ale brewed with grape flavors and maple syrup. Aroma of a second pressed riesling. Slight medicinal hop aroma. Flavor has a fruit sweetness along with some pale malt and a equally light hop bitterness. Not as impressed as with the other ’Long Shot’ beers. nimbleprop (951), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Feb 19, 2008 Pours a transparent copper amber color with a lacing, thin, slightly off white head. Look hard for the aroma and I guess you’ll find grapes and biscuit but too weak to even be called subtle. Flavor is really weak, malt doesn’t really assert itself until the very end and even then there’s just a touch. Otherwise the flavor is of fruit juice (apple/grape). Finish is watery with a touch of lasting sweetness. Side by side with the Longshot Weizenbock this is child’s play. Maybe it didn’t translate well from the home brew to the big kettles at Sam Adams, but this was a BIG miss for me. Finishing a beer this forgettable really makes me wonder how in the world this beer was chosen for mass production, JB175 (1664), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Mar 23, 2008 Golden color with a light-med head. Aroma is a big grainy, sawdustly, and lightly hopped. Flavor dominated by light sawdusty malts with a hint of British hops and light grape - not grapey/vinous enough to really be all that complex. Sorta OK, but I feel a bit let down by any "contest winner" that tastes this mediocre. drowland (1432), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 16, 2009 Hmmm... of the hundreds of submitted beers, this was the winner? It’s okay, but definitely nothing special... not by a... longshot! haha! heemer77 (4312), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | May 14, 2008 Thanks for the bottle, iowaherkeye. The body is deep gold with a light khaki head. The aroma is definite grape juice with some dandelions. There is also some lightly sour cranberry type smells in here. The taste is rich grape juice with some strong notes of nasty grass and hay in the finish. There is also some strange woody notes that distract. The body is fairly light. Again, like these other contest winners, I am sure that something was lost in translation. Overall, it is like watered down sugar free grape juice mixed with some children’s cough syrup. dwyerpg (2553), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Feb 22, 2008 I think I may have had this a bit too warm. I’m not getting much grape really, either in aroma or flavor. Definitely light, it doesn’t have much hops at all, if this is based on the pale ale style. Not really that great.
