Commercial Description:
Created by Don Oliver, California. Don says that the blend of distinctive malts in his brew "offers a rich and malty taste that doesn’t overpower. It’s a full-bodied, heavy ale good for a winter night by the fire."

Very good beer. I wonder what it tasted like when the guy made it at home. Very warm alcohol taste which is great in the winter time. Not a great mouth feel though

Pours a ruddy crimson rust with a scant beige head. Laces in random droopy patterns. Aromas are sweet and cloying, with plenty of raisin, brown sugar, plum, cinnamon, and toffee present. Flavors mirror the aromatics with the same characteristics. Additional notes of pulpy wood, mple syrup, and rich molasses. Sticky mouthfeel, rich and thick. A sipper, and a belly warmer. Sucks this did not come out in winter, but a "cool" mid-May evening in NC will suffice for now. Best of the three in the mixed sixer.

A reddish brown ale with a thin off white head. In mouth, a sweet caramel and raisin aroma, nicely vinous, with nice alcohol warmth. In mouth, a light vinous malt, with honey, molasses, and light alcohol in finish. Medium bodied. A winner! Bottle at 11th Annual CNY Brewfest, Feb.5 2007.

sweet aroma, lots of dark ripened fruits - red grapes, plums, RAISINS, a little bit of alcohol very representative of an old ale. clear color of cherry-wood, and the flavor is very balanced. lots of slightly tannic malt so it’s a bit like chewing on a piece of maple that’s been soaking in its own syrup. all 10.6% is well-hidden until the liquid warms up in the glass, and then it begins to show some heat. well put by JTW. When I opened and took the first sip I looked at the Alcohol% and was shocked to see 10.6%, but as it got towards the end, it was believable. the beer was quite one dimensional, and not extremely enjoyable.

12 oz bottle: Aroma is big on malts, raisins, prunes, caramel, toffee, chocolate, and some roasted nut elements intermingled. Pours almost like Coke or Pepsi quite carbonated a deep brownish/ black, semi-translucent, with a soapy off white head that lingers. Taste is a little thin than what I was expecting from the robust aroma, definite dark fruit elements, the malts, caramel, toffee, some light coffee notes, and a bit of roasted nuts. Palate lingers for quite a while, sticky on the lips, and leaves the mouth somewhat dry. Overall, not the best Old ale that I’ve had, but all of the beers in this mix pack are solid!

The 12 ounce bottle poured a crystal clear, deep ruby red beverage with a modest sized smooth off-white head that was mostly diminishing but left some lacing on the glass. The aroma was primarily malty with notes of cherry and a subtle background of pulled taffy. The body was ... wow ... full with a soft, caressing carbonation and a silky smooth texture. The flavor starts out quite sweet and stays that way through the long finish. There is a subtle alcohol warmth right at the end of the finish as well.

Shared with roommate. Reddish brown color with quick dissipating head. Towards the end it tasted very grainy with too much alcohol burn.
