Commercial Description:
Created by Don Oliver, California. Don says that the blend of distinctive malts in his brew "offers a rich and malty taste that doesn’t overpower. It’s a full-bodied, heavy ale good for a winter night by the fire."

Bottle. Pours a clear deep brown, small tan head that quickly dissipates. Lotsa bubbles thru the beer. Smells of sweetness, copper, bitter fruit, and some malt. Sweet flavor with a lingering finish. Some toastiness on top of the cough-syrup flavor.

Poured a dark ruby/amber; small to medium head. Aroma of dark fruit, malt, grape, and alcohol. Flavor and feel reminded me a bit of a dopplebock. Mouthfeel and palate were excellent. Enjoyed it more than I would have expected. Flavor of dark fruit, sugar, malt and some chocolate. Pretty solid beer that I would have again, but only if it was offered to me by someone.

Well, I never heard of ’old ale’ perhaps this is my 1st of the category? Reddish brown with a thin head. Brandy aroma that is rich and alcoholic and has plum notes. I like the palate as it is doppelbock-ish, with its blend towards sweet ripe fruit. Rather sugary but there is a bit of balancing bitter in there. This is a classy beer and the king of the longshots.

Clear polished copper body with some lightly notable viscosity and a fading beige head. Early note of DMS leads to baked apples, caramel, and bread crusts. Sweet and sticky well-toasted malt and plum flavors. Impression is more like Munich than Maris Otter. Long toasty sweet finish. Passable, but lacks in depth and has too much residual sugar. This might have a prayer if they bottle-conditioned it.

Strong Molasses and tobacco nose. Some spicy alcohol as well. Thick chewy caramel malt and some raw wortiness for flavors. A kiss of dark fruits with a fair amount of alcohol heat at the finish. This feels a bit unbalanced and the alc. strength is quite obvious. Still a pretty decent brew.

Poured a clear deep golden chestnut color with a small creamy tan head. Sweet malty aroma with sugary notes. Dark fruits, chocolate and some banana. The flavor was sweet and fruity. Mild bitter finish. Full bodied.

One bottle on the coldest March day for the last 100 years. It’s a very dark amber with a small tan head. Sweet malt aroma. When cold the alcohol shows thru the sweet malt. When it warmed the flavors of chocolate, caramel malt show thru. More enjoyable as it warmed.
