Commercial Description:
Created by Don Oliver, California. Don says that the blend of distinctive malts in his brew "offers a rich and malty taste that doesn’t overpower. It’s a full-bodied, heavy ale good for a winter night by the fire."

Dark copper appearance with a large, lasting, tan head and good lacing. Soft fruit aroma turns sweeter as it sets. Sweet malty taste, modestly hopped, with flavors of molassas, maple syrup, fruit, and licorice. Medium to full bodied with little carbonation and a durable finish. 10.6% abv?....never would have guessed.

Red! Looks like a red wine with a persistent lace. A heavy fuel tone in the bouquet. Brown sugar and malt. The oily flavor lingers in your throat. It puts a nice glow in your belly! By far the most interesting of the LongShots.

Pours a deep brown color with a lasting head. Sweet aroma with hints of caramel. Caramel and malt ring through the taste. I love caramel. The alcohol is masked. Full body. And definitely rich and smooth. Certainly impressed.

Pours deep brown color with a red hue. Medium head with lots of lace. Nice aroma lots of sweet malt and... green olives(?). Interesting. Flavor is just superb. Lots of caramel malt, not too sweet. Nice full body, very rich and smooth. Could use a bit more bitterness. But all and all a solid brew. Well done Don.

(Bottle) Pours a dark mahogany body with a small beige head. Aroma of raisins, caramel, and toasted malt. Flavor of toasted malt, dark fruits, and molasses with a creamy, alcohol burn in the finish.

12oz Bottle 2006 release: Nice rusty brownish red color on this one with a tan film and sporadic lacing. Fully malty body. Seems a drop sticky, yet it’s still a bit creamy and not cloying. Some evident alcohol, but not overly assertive. Sweet flavor overall, with light toffee notes, a hint of roastyness, some roasted walnuts and dark raisins and a subtle dry hint in the finish. Nice drinkability for 10.6% ABV, a bit simple for the style, but solid, and easily the best of the 2006 Long Shot offerings. Well executed Don Oliver.

Clear maroon pour. Quickly diminishing head. Caramel, maple, vanilla, and sweet pine sap greet the nose. Somewhat malt dominated. A nice warming effect from the higher ABV. A sweet flavor and could use some more hops to offset the sweetness, but alas, a decent sipper.

(bottle) Beautiful reddish brown body with medium off-white head. Strong aroma is sweet with malt, molasses and dark fruit. Flavor is very sweet. Malt, dark fruit (raisins); a slight tartiness in the finish along with just a little alcohol. Full bodied, sticky, long tingling sensation on the tongue during the finish. Great beer.
