Commercial Description:
Created by Don Oliver, California. Don says that the blend of distinctive malts in his brew "offers a rich and malty taste that doesn’t overpower. It’s a full-bodied, heavy ale good for a winter night by the fire."

Pours a dark ruby color with offwhite head. Aroma is very malty with caramel, molasses and a bit of dark fruit. Also, just a slight nose of smoke. Taste is much the same with the alcohol presence nicely subdued. The best out of the longshot bunch.

(bottle - 12 oz) Dark ruby pour with a thick and puffy tan head. Aroma is loaded with malts, molasses, dark fruits, and lots of caramel malts. Flavor is very dark and malty with a nice caramel and toasty middle and a very smooth and warming finish with loads of malts. Finish is very chewy and full bodied. By far, the best of the three in the LongShot pack.

This was by far the best of the Long shots. It is rich and malt is nicely tuned. I will drink this one again.

Bottle poured a clear mahogany with a large lasting ivory head. Aromas of dark fruit, molasses, carmel and toffee. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of sweet malt, carmel, toffee, brown sugar and a hint of fruitiness with a smooth lingering semisweet finish.

Deep garnet color with a ring of cream. Aroma is sweet and malty with some smokiness. Flavor is all sweet malt. A bit one dimensional with nothing to clean up the sweetness.

From a 12 oz. embossed bottle with a best before date on label and box, June/2007, a blurb on the back label, sampled at cellar temperature in a snifter. Poured a slightly hazy, reddish hued dark brown with a foamy, creamy light tan head, good retention, a fair amount of laced sticking. Aromas of sweet bready caramel malts along with some candied sugar, berry fruity esters, a little earthiness and vinous alcohol. Moderate, steady carbonation and a crisp, alcoholic slick, velvety smooth medium bodied mouthfeel. A very pleasant, fresh Old Ale taste, fruity, currants and berries, sweet sugary malts with hints of caramel and butter toffee, earthy, leafy hops with a soft bitterness, spicy alcohol with a light tannic leather, and a dry hoppy, yeasty, sweet malty finish. I was surprised how much I enjoyed this, I’m wondering what a year of aging will do to this, well worth trying.

Topped with a hige rocky tan head and blessed with ample lacing, this Old Ale is resplendent with a leathers aroma streaked with whisly notes. Thick and strongly alcoholic, this brew is a tough one to get through without food. Malty and laced with a powerful molasses note, there is slight rise in bitterness near the end, but the brew settles into a sweet malty finish before long. Tasty, but somewhat one dimensional.
