| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 18, 2007 This beer should get a six in appearance, just beautiful. Taste is nice. Rich and thick, it has quite a bit of graininess in the finish. A pretty nice beer, and the best of the pack for sure. badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 18, 2007 Dark ruby color with a thin head. Kind of a molasses aroma. Strong, dry malt taste. Fairly nutty. Nothing special. Dickinsonbeer (3499), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 18, 2007 Pours a clear deep amber/ almost woody brown and a foamy tan head. Aroma is sweet with lots of munich and other toasted nutty sweet malts, light phenolics, some fruity esters, hints of diacetyl and low hop character. Flavor is a bit too sweet and intense right now but may mellow out a bit in a year or 2. Sugars, caramel, nutty, hints of dry dark chocoalte, lots of fruits, and a light hop bitterness. Mouthfeel was a bit slick. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 18, 2007 Pours crimson / mahogany with a frothy tan head. The aroma had dark toasted malt, bubble gum, spice and earthy hops - very bold and robust. Medium / full body with a good amount of soft carbonation. The flavor starts with lots of deep toasted malt, hints of coffee bitterness, some medicinal traits and light spice. The finish has more of a spice kick and just a touch of sweetness that lingers. The alcohol is fairly well hidden. A well done beer in an overall enjoyable longshot series. I better get another sixer while they are still around. riversideAK (2792), Shoreline, Washington, USA
| 1.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 4/5 | 1/10 | 3/5 | 6/20 | Feb 17, 2007 The aroma of this beer was dill pickles and cough syrup. The only saving grace was that it was very nice to look at with a deep mahagonay color. Flavor was more of the same. It essentially tasted like tussin. To tell you the truth, I would rather drink tussin, as it would get me more wasted and probably taste a little better. I really dont see how people are rating this so high. It tastes like a high alcohol homebrew. Nothing more. thegreenrooster (1846), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 16, 2007 Pour is a brown with a nice sized tan head. Aroma is big and malty with lots of brown sugar and molasses. Flavor is again sweet with some toffee and caramel with notes of brown sugar and a small alcohol presence. A cross between a dopplebock and a barley wine. Very tasty and strong. The best by far of the long shot six pack. Dorwart (1829), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 16, 2007 Thin head which dissipated quickly. Sweet and sugary aroma with some rootbeer, red raspberry (and some other light fruit) and lots of brown sugar. Light carbonation. Color is a very deep mahagony red. Pretty impressive color. Sweet and malty but not overly sweet. A pretty good balance. Some molasses and raisins. Big hit of alcohol. You really notice it but you really don’t taste it that much. Finish is warming and malty. A pretty good old ale. One of the better brews from Sam Adams. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 15, 2007 Poured a clear effervescent dark ruby with a creamy off-white head that left nice lacing. Aroma of bubble gum, a bit of brown sugar. Flavor is rich and sweet with bubble gum and molasses and bananas soaked in rum coming out first, balanced in the finish by some grassy hops and a bit of dry toffee. Body feels a little thin for the size of the beer but otherwise all right. Alcohol hard to detect except in the buzz that ensues from this beer. Overall, a nice piece of work from Sam Adams... oh wait, this isn’t really from Sam Adams, which must explain why it was better than expected.
