Commercial Description:
Created by Don Oliver, California. Don says that the blend of distinctive malts in his brew "offers a rich and malty taste that doesn’t overpower. It’s a full-bodied, heavy ale good for a winter night by the fire."

Dark amber pour with a small cream colored head. Rich, caramel malt aroma, some dark fruit and honey apparent as well. Very smooth mouth feel; dark, sweet malt base with some cherry and toffee touches that has a nice hop finish.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright ruby-chestnut color with a medium sized light brown head. The aroma was sweet, fruity and had notes of molasses and caramel. Lovely aroma. The flavor was very sweet and fruity - notably cherry - with strong notes of caramel and molasses. The finish was long and sweet with ripe fruits. The body was a bit too fizzy for an old ale but that was really my only complaint. Probably the finest beer I have had from this brewer.

The beer departs the 12 ounce bottle a bit hazy and a mahogany color with some ruby highlights at the edges, the head towers above the body, creamy in texture, and an off white color, as it ever so slowly fades to nothing but a seal on top the body, the lace forms a fine sheet to obscure the glass. Nose is steeped in lightly roasted malt with a nut like sweetness, hints of port wine, magnificent this nose. Front has a bountiful malt presence, hints of hops and a bit vinous, top is medium in feel. Finish has a perfect hop spiciness, the acidity tingles the palate, dry enduring aftertaste, and to me the best of the LongShot series and I look forward to more beers from the masterful home brewers.

Very rich and deep. Alcohol is slightly present. Reminds me slightly of a barleywine. A pretty tasty brew from Sam Adams.

Deep dark coloured body with a thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, cherries, raisins, peat and some oaky essences. Medium-bodied; Strong roasty flavours are strongest in the taste, coupled with the pit fruit sweetness. Aftertaste shows more of the same with a little less sweetness and more of the patchy dry flavours. Overall, a decent beer - definitely an old...better than most sam adams, but this is because it was created by someone else! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle from the six pack, on 06-October-2007.

Bottle and served in standard pint glass: Dark mahogany brown topped by a thick creamy beige head that leaves some spotty lacing upon the glassware. The nose displays caramel and toffee, molasses, hints of prune and pear esters, hint of resiny and piney hops, moderately phenolic and boozy.

The taste starts sweet and syrupy with fruity elements added into the mix. Highly toasted and even a bit charred towards the end. There is an unique bitterness about this brew, not citric or even grassy, just bitter. Lingering combination of liquors that is part scotch and part rum like with some pungent spice, smoke and tannic dryness deep on the palate.

The mouth feel is chewy and creamy but not really thick but more oily, soft carbonation and warming. A solid brew but I wonder how much better it will really get by aging.

Mahagony brown color out of the bottle with an attractive creamy taupe head. Malty nose with some roasted grain, chocolate and a berry fruitiness. I get lots of vanilla, cinnamon, molasses, alcohol, caramel, and that raspberry hint that I got in the nose. Even with the ABV and complex flavors, it seems oddly thin.
