| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 1, 2007 This bottled brew from a bottle shop marker best before 6/07 poured a large sized head of foamy fine to medium sized bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a transparent softly carbonated red brown colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The aroma was malty vinous and sweet. The mildly vinous mouth feel was tingly at the start with a mellow finish vinous aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of very nice and strong caramel malt sweet vinous dark malt and brown malt. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jul 31, 2007 Crystal clear brown body, tiny, tiny, tan head. Malt and dried fruit in the nose. Malt and dried fruit, sugar and more sugar in the taste, a little sweet spice (cardomom?). Sticky sweet syrup but no carbonation ... dead mouthfeel. Just not enough taste, too much sugar. I will drink another. Maybe my bottle had gone flat. For now, though, low scores, minus a penalty for too much alcohol and not enough reason to drink it. Bockyhorsey (2552), Mesa, Arizona, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 29, 2007 bottle into English pint glass. Enchanting, sweet caramel aroma. Deep, dark, clear, amber colour with reddish shades, and a 1/2 inch creamy, tan head that lasts. Some light lacing left. Quite sweet caramel malt and toffee flavors. These flavors predominate until they are pulled back by a plucky dryness that cleanses the palate and readies the tasebuds anew for the next sip. Like a good wine, the flavors intermingle and evolve as the glass is emptied. I don’t detect(taste) the alcohol at all - no mean feat at 10.6%. Surprisingly light mouthfeel. Like liquid candy - very easy going down. A real treat! This ale has the earthy and dusky characteristics requisite to a quality old ale. Such a rare and enjoyable style. Makes me feel all dusty and cobwebby. Wish I had more than one more bottle. Way to go, Don! Petrucci914 (590), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA

Smells of toffee and caramel with some hints of hops. Some carbonation at first and a distinct toffee taste. I can notice the alcohol but it isn’t overpowering. blklab2007 (973), Connecticut, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 21, 2007 Great effort. Well balanced. 10.6%? No way. Full of toffee and caramel. Nice malt with a perfect hops bitterness to foil all of the sweetness. A surprisingly good beer.
