Samuel Adams LongShot Traditional Bock

After a great long shot double IPA, we are back to typical sam adams, not bad but not great. Decent flavor with some dark fruits (cherries and prunes) and heavy malts. Light carbonation. A little sweet, syrupy and alcoholic. Not especially drinkable by the end, losing any sign of a crisp finish. Flavorful, though.

ruby colored brown with large white head. strong malt to the nose. carbonation is a little high for the style with accentuates the hop bitterness a little too much. the malt sweetness comes on and it is enjoyable, providing a long and clean finish. nice

Poured from 12 oz bottle a deep, amber with dark caramel hue, forming a decent light beige head of foam. Aroma was sweet, malty caramel toast. Flavour was of a sweet caramel malty tone, with a slight grassy hop character that ends somewhat fruiticious. Surprisingly good and tasty, well made.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Well this one certainly starts off nice as it’s a gorgeous looking beer, crystal clear copper with a massive creamy beige head that clings to the glass with great lacing and remains a solid one-inch cap for a long time. The aroma is very clean and basic (not necessarily a bad thing). It’s got lots of toasted caramel malts with some light sweetness in the nose on top of that. It’s a fairly subdued but nice aroma. The taste follows the aroma fairly closely with the toasted malts in the background. However, the taste is a good bit more sweet than the aroma, with a much more prevalent caramel malt sweetness than the aroma. There is some fruity sweetness in there as well. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with plenty of carbonation and much sweeter and sugary on the palate than many bocks I’ve had. This is a solid effort from Sam Adams and definitely better than the average bock. I’m not ready to put it at the top of the style, but it’s a very sweet and drinkable bock.

12 oz. bottle. Pours brown, small white head. Aroma is caramel, with a bit of toasted malts, very sweet. Flavor is similar, not too outrageous, but a decent beer. Needs more of a yeasty flavor to truly be a "dunkler bock."

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark but translucent brown color with a white head. Aroma is malty, roasted. Flavor packs a punch even at only 6.8%. Good malt balance, tinge of hop notes. Not my favorite style, but good.

Dark reddish mahognany, foamy, dense head. Chocolatey, earthy aroma. Smooth and spicy at first, some more earthy notes, maybe a touch of cinnamon, plus some smoke and coffee. Nice stuff.

Pours a dark brown with a cream fluffy head. Malty aroma. Malty taste nice standard bock as described. Nutty some spice caramel. Some residual head and some lace left behind. Nice bock example. Not my first pick, but I’m glad i got this special six pack!
