Flavor has a light caramel accent with black plum, sweet malt and a small amount of honey in each sip. Very smooth. bhensonb (4342), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 15, 2009 Poured a nice amber with a decent beige head. Aroma mostly of caramel. Pretty full bodied with firm carbonation. The flavor is smooth, rich caramel with lighter dark fruits. I’ll buy plum and cherry. Finish is smooth and lightly sweet. It drinks amazingly well, and I think most everyone will enjoy it. demitriustown (701), Shelby Township, Michigan, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 14, 2009 12 oz bottle: Aroma is really nice caramel and malty, nutty, and some light yeast notes. Appearance is an amber/brown witha thick off white head that lingers around for quite a while. Taste is somewhat dry first off, malt upfront, caramel, lightly smokey, buttery, and overall pretty decent. Palate has a lingering malty aftertaste and mouth feel has got nice carbonation and an overall malt characteristic. Overall, this actually an enjoyable easy drinking bockl all around. Cheers! Sam Adams needs to permanently hire some of the home brewers that win these Longshot competitions. Im not the biggest bock or dunkel fan, but this is very tasty. Pour is clear brown. Aroma is light and doughy w/ distant hint of plum. Palate is great. Mouth is carbonated well.. tastes of light/medium malts, some smoke, dark fruits, and dough. Again, really good for the style. 3.45 DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 13, 2009 I will rerate, because the bottle I got smelled of heavy butyric acid, like strong vomit. Amazingly , it looked very good, tasted great, had a great palate, and was overall solid. After the repour, the bad smell went away and did not return. Consider this a "careful, this beer may have infection problems" rating, with a promise from me to rerate ASAP. This is the first time in 10 years that I’ve gotten a bad bottle of something. beergod (103), Austin, Texas, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | May 13, 2009 Bottle. Clear, ruby brown/copper pour with a short, diminishing off-white head. Sweet aroma, though light, of caramel and toasted malts with hijnts of fruits, particularly plum. The flavor is moderatetly to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of subar and honey linger on the tongue along with some roastiness. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. A tad too sweet, but just enough balance to keep it from becoming cloying or syrupy on the tongue. kseecs16 (907), Naperville, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 13, 2009 Pours a red amber with a moderate bubbly and creamy light tan head. Nice lacing. Nice dry slightly roasty malt flavor. As it warms there is a light smoked malt character, or at least the sense of one. Medium bodied, mild carbonation. A nice flavorful bock.
