Commercial Description:
2008. Created by homebrewer Alex Drobshoff. Alex’s Brew is a bright copper German inspired bock with a complex, full bodied mouthfeel. Hints of rich plum and cherry aromas paired with its toasty, malt flavor make this the perfect beer to linger over on a cool evening.

A deep clear amber in color with a small but well retaining head. Aroma of alot of malt- molasses, brown sugar, some toasted malt, mild fruit, some nuts, some chocolate. Taste: mild chocolate, alot of molasses and toasty malt, brown sugar, somewhat nutty, hints of dark fruit, overall smooth with a light hop bitterness in the finish. Body is full and chewy.

Pours a chestnut hued body and a bountiful light tan head. The aroma is molasses sweet, toffee, caramel, with hints coco, raisins, plums and dates. The palate is sticky, and finishes juicy and sweet. Overall, I’m pretty impressed... One hell of a tasty Bock Biere!

(bottle) medium copper-brown with generous tan head. Malt aroma. Fairly sweet toasted malt flavor. A bit on the sweet side for my taste.

Bottle. Poured an average, creamy, off-white head. Ruby in color with a very malty nose. Aromas of caramel, chocolate, prune and some toastiness. Sweet, malty flavors are complemented by a medium, somewhat creamy body. Average carbonation with a barely bitter finish. Overall a very enjoyable beer that I would definitely drink again.

Pours out a hazy light brown color with a moderate off white head, with moderate carbonation. Aroma of caramel malts, toasted malt and a nutty/earthy flavor. Taste is sweet malts, caramel, nut, toast, and a slight mild dried fruit flavor. Not bad, but not my style.

Bottle from Party Town, KY. Poured a ruby color with a large off-white fizzy head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Medium toasted malt and sweet fruit aroma. Medium body with smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate toasted sticky sweet flavor with a smooth moderate sweet finish of moderate duration. Interesting smooth drinkable beer.

Not a terrible attempt, but really, this is far from a traditional bock. Way too much specialty grains in the grist, leading to a heavy dose of malt astringency. I wish I knew why American brewers (pro and home) were so heavy handed with specialty grains. /end rant.
