Nose is spicy yeast, sweet biscuit, brown sugar, and alcohol alongside some chocolate. Taste is sweet light toasted malts, creamy body, perfect velvety carbonation, and really nice and thick. This is easily the best of the 2009 Longshot series. jkwalking05 (1501), Arlington, Texas, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Aug 7, 2009 The appearance is clear and deep ruby red with a slightly off white head. The malt hits your nose as you near the glass, with rich carmel and melanoidins coming into play at first sip. Awesome aroma. Smooth and slightly nutty - right on target for this classic style. The hops are well in the background of this malt forward beer. Picked up some mild toffee notes, as well. Good effort by SA in reproducing this homebrewer’s beer. drowland (1444), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

Pours light red-brown with a thick khaki head. The aroma is caramel grains and dusty metal. The flavor is roasted and caramel grains with some bread and malt sweetness with a dry almost coffee finish. Really not bad. RHeastings (438), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 1, 2009 Enjoyed from a 12oz bottle in a pub glass. The beer pours the characteristic deep brown, with perhaps a few dark ruby highlights. The aroma shows deep malt character, and a nice complexity; although it is a bit restrained. The palate is full, bringing notes of Munich malt, slightly toasted malt, and a nicely sweet (but not overly so) finish. Nicely done. Holdwine (909), Beertimore, Maryland, USA
