Commercial Description:
Created by Rodney Kibzey, Illinois Rodney describes his wonderfully complex brew as "deep amber in color with a full creamy body and a dark fruit and clove aroma." This traditional Bavarian style brew took Rodney a few batches to perfect, but the taste is worth all of his hard work.

Cloudy dark brown with a 2 finger beige head, good retention. Aroma has lots of banana--ripened and artificial (like Runts candy)--raisins, toast, and only a hint of spicy clove. Flavor has banana, caramel and toasty malts dominating. Next up is some spicy alcohol and and light raisins toward the dry finish. Burps Runts candy. Low bitterness. Full creamy body with lower carbonation than I thought it would’ve had, but still nice since it was creamy. I’m sure the actual homebrewed version was better, but it makes me happy that Sam Adams is doing this (plus the fact that they freed up 40,000 # of hops). Either way, still good.

12 oz. bottle. Well, one of our boys made it (though Rodney is Urban Knaves of Grain and I’m Brewers of South Suburbia). Dark brown color, a bit cloudy, I think, short layer of foam. Smell mostly of wheat and dark grains. I suspect even this long in the bottle will start to mellow out the weizen esters. But those characteristics are there in the palate: a sweet banana nut bread taste among grains with a bit of roastiness and a bite of yeast. Clove comes out next, with cardamon and poppyseed. Hmm… it’s a muffin in a beer. Almost a bit too much to chew on, but a good big beer that preserves the quirks of good homebrew.

A very well done and delicious weizen bock. Aroma was near perfect. A strong blend of banana, clove and yeast. Pour was a deep murky brown with a nice 2 finger almost tan head. Taste was very full and big. Strong bread, light fruit and banana in the front with a nice bitey carbonated aftertaste. This is a great representation of the style.

Pour is a murky, cloudy brown with a tan head. Aroma is nice with lots of banana and clove coming to the front. Flavor is cloves, brown sugar and banana with a little alcohol burn after the swallow. A very tasty and well done rep of the style.

12 oz bottle, from Longshot six-pack, BevMo LaJolla. Pours cloudy chestnut brown with golden highlights when held to light and an off-white head. Toasty aroma with burnt banana, smoke, molasses, herbs, dark brown bread and yeast. Sweetish flavor of over ripe bananas, yeasty black peasant bread, wheat, lemon, herbs and floral hops. Full body, with light carbonation. Not bad.

Bottle. Body-very dark hazy brown with a half inch foamy head and good lacing. Nose-Belgian, banana, cloves, prunes, dark fruit. Taste-dust, very slight metal, corn sugar, big dose of wheat, lingering bitter, lightly boozy, raisin, alcohol, slightly old tasting, alcohol and wheat really dominate, unsweet portion of apple juice, apple skin, treachle, lychee.

Bottle at Bocktown in Pittsburgh. Pours a muddy brown with a nice khaki head. Medium bodied with an earthy texture. Aroma of banana esters and yeast. Flavor of dark wheat malt, clove, banana bread, and dark fruit. Moderate amount of sweetness. Finish is yeasty with a good amount of phenols (perhaps a little too much). Not too shabby.

Well done, has got a real clove taste and smell that reminds of Autumn ham, the malts are nice and plentiful with the a strong hop body.
