The company should dump one of its flagship beers and replace it with this! This is like the Summer Ale with flavor. There is a medium-dry palate with a shade of fruits. I wish it was just this one and not the Grape Ape beer in the sixer/case. fakepurseninja (790), Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 18, 2008 Strong and sweet - Lots of pepper and other small spices. Big sweet malt base with a lot of belgian esters and yeasty components. Bananas play second fiddle to what is a very strong pepper component with a lot of belgian candy sugar sweetness. Slight wheat maltiness. Really nice drink overall, suprisingly good. Slipstream (785), USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 28, 2008 Hats off to Boston Beer for their Longshot concept - taking winners of their homebrew contest, brewing them up and releasing them in limited quantities - very cool! And kudos to brewer Rodney Kibzey too. This has a full, bubbly head, and full, fruity, malty aroma. Smooth mouthfeel and a rich, smoky taste - pumpernickel, malt, a little nutmeg, and the right amount of sweetness. Peppy hops in the finish. Like Sam Adams’s Double Bock, this is a solid Yankee version of a bock style. slimchill (783), Austin, Texas, USA

Opaque cloudy brown with a brownish head that laces nicely. Mild flavor, lightly spicy and sweet. Drinkable but with a sharpness in the finish that leads to a sour and unpleasant aftertaste. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 25, 2008 Yeasty cloudy brown with small off white head. Nice fruity yeast notes in aroma with carmelized/roast malts with some bannana and lots of peppery clove. Flavor includes some fruity malt sweetness with spicy hop and yeast phenolics. Medium mouthfeel with some nice spicey hops in the finish. Nice job. Hangover (771), Atlanta, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 22, 2008 Hazy dark brown pour with a creamy, and lasting, light brown head. Aroma has a lot of banana and clove and a bit of cherry/date. I’m gonna call it full bodied. Creamy mouthfeel, medium carbonation. More banana in the flavor but there are also discernable wheat and yeast notes. Light chocolate and dark fruit in the finish. Pretty complex and really tasty. I like this style and this is a great example. mmmbeer (765), Austin, Texas, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Feb 15, 2008 12 oz. bottle poured into my trusty stein- poured a non transparent almost black body, medium carbonation, one finger head disssolved to half a finger thick, some lacing. Aroma of cloves, bananas, and a hint of roasted wheat (very hard to create!). Hits the mouth with a medium body, ALOT of spices and slowly roasted malts hit the tongue, finish leaves you begging for more. I’ll guarandamntee those that put down the macros of the USA will have it on their "want list" in 3-6 months. Too bad I plan on buying up the rest from local stores near me- it’s going to cost you kids... RollinHard (761), Fort Worth, Texas, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Feb 28, 2008 Pours a very dark brown, cloudy, with a huge creamy off-white head. This looks brilliant. Aroma hits you in the face with pungent smoke, burnt grass, hay, tons of clove, mild banana as it warms, and maybe a slight vinousness. Flavor is equally heavy on cloves, subtle smokiness, a dry grassy taste, toasty and subtly chocolate malt, pretty dry flavors overall. Very spicy and pungent. Finishes lightly bitter and almost roasty, grassy hop and clove flavor, pretty dry too. Nice creamy body too, substantially chewy and full without being heavy. I still prefer Aventinus because of it’s slightly sweeter slant, but this is superb. I love the pungent smoky yeast and clove notes.
