Commercial Description:
Created by Rodney Kibzey, Illinois Rodney describes his wonderfully complex brew as "deep amber in color with a full creamy body and a dark fruit and clove aroma." This traditional Bavarian style brew took Rodney a few batches to perfect, but the taste is worth all of his hard work.

12oz bottle. Aroma of mustard spice and some dried fruits and alcohol. Brown body with off white head that did manhole cover the body of liquid. Flavor was chalky spicey alcohol. Nothing to make me say ahh this is good. Sticky spicey palate. maybe a 3 was too good.

A nice wheaty aroma, that’s also dark, I suppose. First thought flavor wise is that this is quite creamy. A great wheat flavor that’s complex, with some zing in the finish. Also, a small amount of alcohol comes out in the end. Had relatively warm.

Pours with a frothy, somewhat dense, initially three-finger thick, creamy-tan colored head. The beer is a murky, rusty, concentrated amber color that shows a heavily hazy, slightly lighter, dark amber hue when held up to the light. The aroma has a really nice mix of banana and clove notes (clove dominated initially), that has a backdrop that throws in some caramel notes, which then seem to accent the banana aromatics a bit more. As the beer warms up a bit I am able to notice a soft spiciness as well as a touch of tart wheat notes and even a touch of diacetyl that melds into the banana notes. This has a rich, desert like aroma to it, especially with the mix of banana and caramel.

This has a soft creamy mouthfeel to it, though it is not rich or thick. The finish has lightly roasty notes of chocolate, toasted bread, and even a light nuttiness. Up front this beer is sweet and full, which accentuates characteristic flavors of banana, though there is also some notes of prunes, that I would assume is contributed by the malted grain. Towards the finish the flavor picks up some spicy notes of clove that provides a hint of turpene-driven tongue numbing. It can get a little sharp in the finish with the mix of phenolics, probably some light hop bitterness and the other esters, but this is all fairly subtle. There are also a bit of dusty, browned malt flavors in the finish. A soft, welcome tartness runs throughout this beer and is quite characteristic of beers made from malted wheat.

I like the texture of this brew; soft, creamy, yet not heavy a great balance for a drinkable Weizenbock. The aroma seems a little off, which is really only noticeable once it warms up. This is a nice beer though, and one which I would be happy to quaff a couple pints of.

Bottle. Glad to see this one rated highly. Pours a beautiful, cloudy tea-brown with an aroma of chocolate covered banana, and a hint of raspberry. Tart clove greets the taste buds, quickly followed by his buddies caramel and sweet molasses. These friends leave a wake of nice thick and tangy film on the tongue. Very refreshing and tasty beer. Definite repeat.

thanks to nimbleprop. 12oz bottle. Deep, muddy brown, big foamy tan head. Aroma of ripened fruit, bananas, cherries. some notes of clove. Flavor of a bold yeast profile. Huge malt character. very chewy, full bodied. Flavor is very complex. consistes of sweet malt and lots of fruit esters. This may be the greatest Sam Adams I’ve had! Cheers!

Bottle from Sam’s Quik Stop in Durham. Dark brown color with a thick, creamy head. Good lacing. Spicy apple, pear, banana aroma. Taste is similar, but a little lighter on fruit and heavier on grainy malty tastes. Full bodied and effervescent. Alcohol could be hidden better.

Bottle from the six pack. The pour was dead on, huge-mongo head, excellent lacing, wonderful orange-red brown body, off-white peachy colored head. The aroma was rich strong fruity esters of banana, light caramel, cloves. The flavor followed suit, clovey phenolic character most noteable, some other spices, rich lightly roasted bananas, some dark fruits too. The mouthfeel was moderate to full for the style, and sweet, but a little airy, could have been a bit bigger. Very worthy of a pour into my Aventinus 0.5L glass, another nice LongShot by Sammy, a brewer I’m unashamedly sympathetic toward. Nice job on this one, Rodney!
