Commercial Description:
Created by Rodney Kibzey, Illinois Rodney describes his wonderfully complex brew as "deep amber in color with a full creamy body and a dark fruit and clove aroma." This traditional Bavarian style brew took Rodney a few batches to perfect, but the taste is worth all of his hard work.

12oz bottle. pours murky dense plum brown with creamy off white head. a big banana aroma is noticed instantly, while some cloves, yeast, dark fruit, and hints of caramel come into play. flavor has rich toffee, plums, and banana and cloves. balanced and pleasantly rich. lively carbonation. this is a wonderful weizenbock. if I didn’t have to buy 3 grape ales with it I would buy much more of this.

2/15/2008: Sam Adams LongShot Weizenbock by Rodney Kibzey pours a very cloudy to murky brownish yellow color with a thick, creamy ivory head. The huge aroma has copious amounts of banana, clove, and bubblegum. It really does smell like banana bread with walnuts. Great aroma! The flavor is also great and contains ripen banana, rich caramel malt, spicy clove, and a nice shot of blended and syrupy alcohol in the finish. The body of this brew is medium-full and is thick, full, and creamy on the palate. This was an awesome brew and super fantastic Weizenbock. Mr. Kibzey did a fabulous job on this brew and is one of the best beers that Samuel Adams has evern put on the market! As a matter of fact, I am going to go get another LongShot 6-pack (if I can find one) just to get more of this beer!

Congratulations to Mr. Kibzey on this very fine Weizenbock! As a fellow homebrewer, I know how hard it is to craft a superb beer and this one definitely exceeds all expectations. This was a well-deserved win. Keep up the good work!

12 fl. oz. bottle (7.2% ABV; Enjoy before July 2008) from the 2007 LongShot 6-pack. Purchased at Party Town in Bellevue, Kentucky. Rating #31 for this beer...

I’m currently using the LongShot series as an attempt to inspire me as I go through the tedious task of bottling the first batch of homebrew I’ve made in a few years. This beer was actually pretty successful at being inspiring. Poured a murky brown, decent head. Huge aroma of banana and clove, along with some dark fruits and a hint of vanilla. Flavor was vanilla, followed by banana, loads of dark fruit from lush malts, and a clove finish with a kiss of citric tang. Really quite excellent, I thoroughly enjoyed this. Well done, Mr. Kibzey.

12 ounce bottle from a 6 pack that was purchased at BevMo in Natomas, CA. Aroma has plenty of banana-like yeast esters. Light molasses and light sweet aromas are also present. I also detect some nice clove notes, too. Pretty aromatic and pleasant. Moderately hazy dark amber body with a medium, tan-off-yellowish head. Nice lacing. A little dry roasty malt flavors to start, before some yeasty banana and clove-like esters take over. Some dry and wheat-like flavors take over at the end. Light bitterness and light roasty choco notes at the end. Pretty good stuff.

An excellent beer. Massive wheat & banana on the nose with some cloves. Similar flavor with an excellent warmth.

Bottle. Aroma a big rush of wheat, clove, and grain. Dark red fruit. Deep, dark brown-amber with a dense, thick, full, lacing, tiny-bubbled, creamy, rocky, superb head! Taste much the same, though more restrained, semi-dry with a light grainy finish and a splash of yeast. Brown sugar, and alcohol that’s too high in the mix. Lovely bit of marshmallow. Lightly crisp. Medium-light body and not as muddled as most in style; seems like SA was able to filter a bit of the confusion out. A good one, better than many I had in Germany, and something I’d like to see go into continued production.

Murky dark orange-brown body, medium tan head. Aroma of chocolate, banana, and alcohol. Creamy, estery body, with notes of banana, clove, chocolate, and caramel. Soft, complex, and well-balanced. A fine beer and testament to the brewing talents of its author and homebrewers everywhere. Kudos to participants in this contest. I really like this beer.
