| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 24, 2008 Pours a dark cloudy brown color with a 2 to 3 finger head that is tope colored and creamy. Nose is sour, malty, some licorice, and cloves. Taste is of dark fruits, sugar, cloves, and the finish is medium and warming. I acutally expected something a bit different, don’t get me wrong this is a great beer but I prefer the wheat to be the star and not just a supporting cast memeber. xmarcnolanx (808), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 17, 2008 Aroma is chewy wheat, dark fruit, and bubblegum- sweet and rich.
It leaves slight wisps of head around the sides of the glass and the muddy brown complexion is kind of sexy.
There are so many layers of flavor in this beer! At first I get a rich, creamy beer without much complexity- some banana, some clove et cetera. Typical. However, as the beer warms up I start to get more of a gummy flavor with hints of black pepper and dull red fruit.
Finish is dull fruit, pepper, and a lingering sense of a creaminess that has already passed.
Very solid offering from Sam Adams. eaglefan538 (2405), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 16, 2008 Bottle from the six pack. The pour was dead on, huge-mongo head, excellent lacing, wonderful orange-red brown body, off-white peachy colored head. The aroma was rich strong fruity esters of banana, light caramel, cloves. The flavor followed suit, clovey phenolic character most noteable, some other spices, rich lightly roasted bananas, some dark fruits too. The mouthfeel was moderate to full for the style, and sweet, but a little airy, could have been a bit bigger. Very worthy of a pour into my Aventinus 0.5L glass, another nice LongShot by Sammy, a brewer I’m unashamedly sympathetic toward. Nice job on this one, Rodney! nimbleprop (951), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 19, 2008 Pours a dark, nearly opaque, mahogany brown color with a frothy, heavy looking tan head. This LongShot has a fairly intense aroma of yeast, alcohol, banana, smoked wheaty malts, and Belgian candy. This style of beer doesn’t produce my favorite beer aroma, but this brew has a very pronounced aroma regardless of personal taste. Flavor is very similar to the aroma, although reminds me more of an abbey dubbel than a weizen bock. Flavor blends heavy fruit flavors (plum and banana), heavy yeast flavor and heavy malt flavor. Nothing subtle in this bottle. Again, not my favorite style, and a little misrepresented by calling it a weizenbock, but still a pleasant flavor. Finish has a lasting sweetness and a slightly syrupy texture. I was very impressed by this beer, and although I don’t typically like weizenbocks, I thought this beer was a great representation of the style and a great offering from the Boston Beer Company. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 2, 2008 This is an exciting beer for me since this guy is from my hometown of Lombard, IL! - a beer non-entity (until recently when a Rock Bottom (Yorktown) opened up. So its with pride and excitement that I celebrate one of the Lilac Village’s own making the big time with this brew. Nice looking cloudy brown with a medium head. Aroma is big, sweet, and inviting - lots of banana, clove, and rich wheat. Flavor is a bit sweet, a bit spicy - cloves and banana/dark fruit dominate. I’m also getting alot of real wheat here. Not my favorite W-bock, but a solid take on the style that I should grab more of before its gone.
