Wheat and spice make up the light aroma with bits of citrus. Taste brings in a little banana and a bit more clove. Rather smooth, balanced, and creamy. Not usually my favorite style, but this longshot was quite satisfying. Beerdedone (1885), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 10, 2008 Sam Adams LongShot Weizenbock is a cloudy brown lager with a thin, leathery beige head with some oily bubbles. It leaves good lacing. It has a burly, grainy aroma that’s the slightest bit sweet. There are grassy hops and a woody spice in the nose. It’s pretty full bodied; fluffy, crunchy on the palate. It’s the slightest bit sweet on the tongue. There is a definite prune flavor. The bitterness is dark chocolate and some kind of berry. It’s like a brownie with gravy on it. Not for the faint of heart. This will put hair on your chest. Tastes rather like an ale. Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 17, 2008 Pours a cloudy, dark root beer brown with a sizable, dense, creamy beige head that laces nicely. The nose is of cloves, candy sugar, dark fruit, light banana and a touch of alcohol. Nice. Medium-bodied and silky, the palate finishes moderately spicy and surprisingly warming. A round wheat body is backed by notes of dark fruit, cloves, pepper, banana and alcohol. While this is one of the better Sam Adams brews that I’ve tried, I have an aversion to heavily spiced beers. This one started really nicely, but, as I approached the bottom of the glass, it began to grate on me a bit with its overt spiciness. I generally like the fruity and normally subtle esters that come with German weissbier yeast, but this tastes as though they’ve actually added spices to the recipe. As it is it’s pretty good, but if the spiciness were toned down a bit, I’d have enjoyed it even more. jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA
