| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 17, 2008 Pours a cloudy, dark root beer brown with a sizable, dense, creamy beige head that laces nicely. The nose is of cloves, candy sugar, dark fruit, light banana and a touch of alcohol. Nice. Medium-bodied and silky, the palate finishes moderately spicy and surprisingly warming. A round wheat body is backed by notes of dark fruit, cloves, pepper, banana and alcohol. While this is one of the better Sam Adams brews that I’ve tried, I have an aversion to heavily spiced beers. This one started really nicely, but, as I approached the bottom of the glass, it began to grate on me a bit with its overt spiciness. I generally like the fruity and normally subtle esters that come with German weissbier yeast, but this tastes as though they’ve actually added spices to the recipe. As it is it’s pretty good, but if the spiciness were toned down a bit, I’d have enjoyed it even more. Ron (1038), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 2, 2008 Cloudy brown pour with a big creamy tan head. Lots of spice and fruit in the aroma. Nice sweet grain flavor with the spice and fruit coming through again. The alcohol was noticeable at first, but was warming as I drank more. Nice on the palate, well rounded. Seriously enjoyable! bhensonb (4369), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 5, 2008 Aroma of caramel malt with banana notes. Hazy brown color with a white head that came out flat. Strong clove aroma as the glass approached the nose. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Lots of clove flavor with a dark roasted wheat backbone. Plus there’s banana. The finish is fairly dry, fairly bitter, a bit toasted, and cloved. Quite a product. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 9, 2008 12 ounce bottle from a 6 pack that was purchased at BevMo in Natomas, CA. Aroma has plenty of banana-like yeast esters. Light molasses and light sweet aromas are also present. I also detect some nice clove notes, too. Pretty aromatic and pleasant. Moderately hazy dark amber body with a medium, tan-off-yellowish head. Nice lacing. A little dry roasty malt flavors to start, before some yeasty banana and clove-like esters take over. Some dry and wheat-like flavors take over at the end. Light bitterness and light roasty choco notes at the end. Pretty good stuff. bb (2930), Martinez, California, USA
