Poured a medium to deeper and cloudy brownish color with a huge sized off white head. Aromas of bananas, cloves, wheaty, and I was getting some smoked meat in the background (took me a while to place it). Tastes of bananas, citrus, lighter spices, and some dark fruits. badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 2, 2008 The cloves, bananas and wheaty qualities are a bit overpronounced but that makes for an enjoyable beer which goes well with the hops (sniffs like the nobles from other Sam Adams beers). The company should dump one of its flagship beers and replace it with this! This is like the Summer Ale with flavor. There is a medium-dry palate with a shade of fruits. I wish it was just this one and not the Grape Ape beer in the sixer/case. tennisjoel (951), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Feb 15, 2008 Murky brown pour with a nice creamy head, true to style. Full banana/clove aroma with plenty of toffee to compliment. I love this style and Rodney nails it. Very good job. The palate is perfect. radagast83 (1317), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours a semi clear, red/brown, medium tan head. The aroma is a wheaty-spicy one with a lot of roastiness. Flavor is toffee, banana, clove, cinnamon, brown sugar, and dark fruits. It’s a pretty solid brew. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 11, 2008 12 oz. distinctive Samuel Adams bottle, notched freshness date along the left side of the label (July 2008), sampled in a weizen glass.
L: Cloudy crayon brown with a frothy, fluffy rough hewed beige head, good retention, leaves behind a fair amount of splotchy curtain-like lace, this is off to a good looking start.
S: First notes of banana, clove and earthy bread, followed by caramel, cocoa and a light nuttiness. As it warms a soft spiciness comes out along with mild aromas of dark figs and prunes.
F&T: Creamy and moderately bodied with enough firmness and heft from the carbonation to give this weizenbock a well rounded feel in the mouth. Lightly roasted malty tastes of caramel, chocolate and almonds with a nice wheat tang towards the end. Following the initial malt tastes comes a soft banana, clove and tingling spiciness, then mildly sweet dried fruit flavors of figs and raisins, plus traces of sour prunes. Finishes with a sprightly dry hop spiciness, caramel, clove and tart malted wheat.
I thought this was a very enjoyable weizenbock, easy to see why it was picked as a LongShot winner. Well crafted and easy to sip, I wouldn’t mind if this became a seasonal release from BBC.
