Pours richly dark, like a porter, with a medium head and one of the most satisfyingly complex aromas I’ve ever smelled. The complexity carries over to the flavor, almost too much for my relatively uncultured taste buds to differentiate. Medium-light mouthfeel. Best holiday beer I’ve had so far.

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 1, 2010 Pours dark red with off white head, aroma is full of ginger and orange peel. Taste up front is cinnamon, and works into ginger and orange peel with a spicy finish. Not a bad spiced beer. CharlesDarwin (1871), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 1, 2010 Oh Old Fezziwig. A classic, in some sense. Aroma of browned figgy pudding, some sweet caramel sauce, and a bit of mingle holiday spice. Pours a clear red-brown, with a lit swirl of off-white. Flavor is enjoyable and deep. A rustic, warming holiday spice. Browned malts are forward and satisfying. Chewy, deep and warm. A smattering of indies spices brings up the rear with some enjoyable characters. Usually, spicing in a beer like this might overwhelm me and wipe me out, but this is restrained, balanced and enjoyable. A nice holiday ale. tedovertu (264), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 1, 2010 12oz. bottle served in a shaker pint. Poured a clear dark amber with a finger of tan head. Ginger in the aroma and a little dark malt. Medium bodied. Cinnamon and ginger in the flavor. Some malt sweetness and a little dark fruit. Good spiced holiday beer, but one at a time is plenty. Not as fragrant and spicy as Anchor OSA, which might be good for some people. BrewingFan (98), Texas, USA
