imadeadguy (378), back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA Mar 3, 2009 550ml. bottle served into Duvel tulip. Pour is oily black with thick dark brown head. Aromas of coffee, coco, roasted malts. Flavor is much of the same with a nice thick body. No alcohol is present what so ever and the finish is wet and full. Solid impy overall! ilherps (212), Carbondale, Illinois, USA Mar 2, 2009 Pours black, heavy, with thin tan foam. Roasted malt and coffee bean notes, with a hint of alcohol. Flavor of coffee, smoke, and raisin. Very smooth and tasty beer. badnloose (99), North Hollywood, California, USA Mar 2, 2009 Not too complex, which was a surprise. As black as an Imperial Stout gets, as thick too. Good roast to it, that’s about it. gringo332 (236), Richardson, Texas, USA Mar 1, 2009 Pours a dark black with a thick tan head. Aroma has a lot of rich roasted malt notes, prune, light coffee and some chocolate. Flavor is bitter up front of black patent and lots of roasted malt which moves into a very light coffee and coca flavor with some sweet prune flavor and a slight metallic and salty taste as the end. The beer has a moderate mouth feel with a bit of a creaminess. dmac (1420), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Feb 28, 2009 550 ml bottle from Stateline. Poured a super dark brown with a large frothy yellowish beige head. Aroma of vanilla extract, chocolate, roastiness and almonds. Sweet yet roasty flavor with lots of vanilla and chocolate up front plus espresso and dark fruit. Medium bodied with average carbonation and a slight roasty burnt aftertaste that lingers. Nicely done. Snojerk321 (1917), San Diego, California, USA Feb 28, 2009 Sample at BevMo! beer tasting. An ok stout...but was expecting more from all of the hype. Typical nose of roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate...some hints of hops. Flavor profile was similar, with mainly roasted coffee at the front. Bitter finish. McWorta (39), Luxembourg Feb 22, 2009 Roasted malts and hops, earthy chewy leatheerish and traces of wood. A pitch black colour with a tan frothy head. Sweet on lips bitter and round on tongue, well balanced!
Full solid body, thick and light oily texture with a long lasting finish.
Heavy and solid structure - lovely at an open fire or maybe try it with roquefort cheese gauguin007 (11), Seattle, Washington, USA Feb 20, 2009 Poured this warm in a chalice. Big, rocky, creamy head. Scent of figs, orange, apricots. Flavor is full-bodied toasty malts with a distinct marmalade finish. Very smooth and elegant. Not as assertive as American Imps, but the noble, gentle British quality. Foam lasts until the end too. Nice brew...I bought a couple more.
