| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 2, 2009 Not too complex, which was a surprise. As black as an Imperial Stout gets, as thick too. Good roast to it, that’s about it. gringo332 (238), Richardson, Texas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 1, 2009 Pours a dark black with a thick tan head. Aroma has a lot of rich roasted malt notes, prune, light coffee and some chocolate. Flavor is bitter up front of black patent and lots of roasted malt which moves into a very light coffee and coca flavor with some sweet prune flavor and a slight metallic and salty taste as the end. The beer has a moderate mouth feel with a bit of a creaminess. dmac (1442), Toms River, New Jersey, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Feb 28, 2009 550 ml bottle from Stateline. Poured a super dark brown with a large frothy yellowish beige head. Aroma of vanilla extract, chocolate, roastiness and almonds. Sweet yet roasty flavor with lots of vanilla and chocolate up front plus espresso and dark fruit. Medium bodied with average carbonation and a slight roasty burnt aftertaste that lingers. Nicely done. Snojerk321 (1937), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 28, 2009 Sample at BevMo! beer tasting. An ok stout...but was expecting more from all of the hype. Typical nose of roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate...some hints of hops. Flavor profile was similar, with mainly roasted coffee at the front. Bitter finish. McWorta (39), Luxembourg
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 22, 2009 Roasted malts and hops, earthy chewy leatheerish and traces of wood. A pitch black colour with a tan frothy head. Sweet on lips bitter and round on tongue, well balanced!
Full solid body, thick and light oily texture with a long lasting finish.
Heavy and solid structure - lovely at an open fire or maybe try it with roquefort cheese gauguin007 (11), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 20, 2009 Poured this warm in a chalice. Big, rocky, creamy head. Scent of figs, orange, apricots. Flavor is full-bodied toasty malts with a distinct marmalade finish. Very smooth and elegant. Not as assertive as American Imps, but the noble, gentle British quality. Foam lasts until the end too. Nice brew...I bought a couple more. DuffManOhYeah (124), USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 19, 2009 Very good, although there are stouts out there that I like more. It’s actually very crisp for a stout and the flavor doesn’t linger for very long. Depending on what you’re eating, that can be nice. I’d recommend it, but only if you can’t get Sam Smith’s Oatmeal Stout or the Rogue Shakespeare Stout.
