(Sample from March 23, 2007 Beer Club Meeting; Bottle at home with weeAnaP on May 23, 2008) Solid black with a tan-brown head. Smells of molasses, roasted nuts. Malty, medium body. Super yummy and tasty! Slight sour/bitter/yeast flavor on the back end. Well balanced with the malt. Alcohol is barely noticeable. Not overdone. Easy to drink. Can’t ever go wrong with Sam Smith’s Imperial Stout!

I tend to dislike stouts. However, this beer is making me reassess my aversion to them. This was a work of art. Poured a dark chocolaty colour with huge brown, long lasting head. Chocolate aroma. Chocolate and coffee taste with a nice sweetness. Well done

Black with brown head. Dark coffee and chocolate aroma. Flavor well matches aroma and adds a oak barrel taste. Well roasted malt, with even a hop taste at the end. An easy drinking Imperial Stout. A great one to share with friends who might not be ready for the really intense ones.

550ml bottle; pours out thick chocolate with heaping dark cream colored head. Deep chocolate/coffee flavor dominating with a slightly bittersweet finish. Smells of sweet burnt coffee. Overall a pretty good stout, but not my favorite.

Pours Black with a head that dissapates fast. Aroma is chocolate, licorice, and slight smoke. Thin/watery palate. Taste: definitely has that english stout flavor of bittersweet chocolate. Not bad but not great either.

Bottle from Capitol Convenience in Concord. Pours dark brown with light brown two finger crown. Aroma is dense, and amazing. Dark chocolate, coffee, nuts are present. Taste is similar, with chocolate, roasted malt, bitter fruit tang, and a smoky aftertaste. I guess I wasn’t as wowed by this as some others are. The oatmeal stout is far superior IMO.
