Alcohol obvious in the aroma with some roasted malt. Sharp, winey, alcohol mouthfeel with some roasted malt and chocolate flavor characteristics. Dark chocolate aftertaste which was pretty nice. The more I drink it the better it gets, but in all honesty that just could be the alcohol doing it’s job. railcat1 (578), Orlando, Florida, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 8, 2008 bottle. aroma of chocolate, malt and faint hops. very dark pour with a thin brown head. Some lacing. tastes of chocolate and malt and slight hops. Tases very much like it smells. The alcohol % is present in the taste but it is balanced well with the rest of the beer. The palate on this is friggin’ incredible. It amazes me how Dark and rich this is but so EASY to drink.I notice some yeast and some hops in the after taste but not at all offensive. American micros should take note of this beer. This is how it’s done right here baby! I’ll have some more please! By far my favorite of the Samuel Smith’s that I have had. Go getcha’ self a four pack and throw down! | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Apr 7, 2008 Very nice stout. Pour was about as nice as it gets, with a nice deep brown and a heavy cream head. Great looking stout. Nose was of roasted malts, coffee, and nut. Taste was also heavily malted with chocolate/coffee, and light spiced fruit present. There was also a nice subtle sweetness that added another dimension to the brew. Finish was lightly bitter. Mouth was very full and coating. IlanMan (817), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 4, 2008 Pour is black with dark creamy tan head. Aroma is light coffee and malt. Taste has a lot of chocolate with minimal grain bite. Also has a slight toffee aftertaste with light fruity esters and more caramel malt finish. Carbonation was a bit high while it was colder but it warmed up and became much more acceptable. Definitely needs to be consumed at a warmer temperature. Very nice brew. Will buy again. You have to be a world class brewery like Samuel Smith’s to make a 7 percent imperial stout taste this good, this perfectly balanced, flavorful, and with this kind of mouthfeel. Awesome beer for sure.
