acearl (207), J-Town, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 18, 2008 16.whatever oz’er, black hue with tan creamy head, chocolate smell over roasted barley a little alcoholic in fragrence and taste despite moderate alcohol content at first then mellows, sour taste, decent for the style, minor hint of chocolate, a little thin as far as texture, lacked complexity, not the best simply average. dpjuart (670), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 17, 2008 3/8/08 - Bottle at Ginger Man in Dallas. Pours black with beige head. Plum, raisin, roast and caramel, roasted coffee and chocolate. Taste is much the same, roasty, bitter coffee and chocolate with lots of fruit esters, plum, raisin, date, with some hop bitterness. Good, but not a super standout in the world of RIS. haf (333), Gijon, Spain Mar 17, 2008 Botella. Es una buena cerveza de muy alta gradacion (7%) Sabor a malta y a chocolate lweiberg (89), Eagan, Minnesota, USA Mar 16, 2008 Pleasing to the tongue and with a blunt, dank taste of dark something-or-other. Somewhat thin but a delicious drink nonetheless. DandyWolfFloyd (331), Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 16, 2008 This is a great beer. It’s not for everybody, but this is not a style for everybody either. It’s top class in the Imperial realm, but it’s not for long term enjoyment either. This beer is for cold evenings after hard work. It’s very rich in both flavor and aroma. This beer has a hardy aroma, with chocolate, liquour, coffee, maybe roast. It’s appearance is stunning, with jet black body and fluffy head. SS Imp Stout is a little dry, a little too rich, and sometimes just plain over the top. Sincerely, this style can be a real joy or a real nightmare. This is a true joy, but not for the meek. SoBloHero (56), Buffalo, New York, USA Mar 14, 2008 Poured very dark, but smooth with a good colored head. One of my new favorite stouts in general. Creamy taste and very smooth taste as well
jbean (110), Illinois, USA Mar 12, 2008 Bottle. Soft and roasty. Not as strong as many imperials, sweeter than I would expect, but pretty dang good. Very creamy. The best I’ve had from Sam Smiths. StFun (535), Indiana, USA Mar 12, 2008 Updated: Jan 8, 2009Anoth Impy that is a great example of a Stout, but falls short of being a great Impy. Fantastic look beer, though, pours black with a perfect head. Malt, roasted barley, hints of chocolate and hops. Not too watery. A lot going on here, just not as full and bold as it probably should be. Another solid Sam Smith’s brew.
