Nice roasted malt and chocolate taste. Very little bitterness but a somewhat sourness to it. I like pouring this into champagne glasses. TomDecapolis (3203), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 17, 2006 2005 bottle. Pours a deep black with just hints of red when held to the light. Head was a smooth and creamy dark tan lacing and sustaining. Aroma of dark fruits, roasted malts, vanilla, toffee, nuts, oak, sweet malts, very complex deep aromas overall. Flavor not quite on par with the aroma...but still solid. sweet roasted malts, coffee, hints of chocolate, dark fruits some vanilla and oak. Kind of thin was hoping for more body/creamy. Still a well done Imp Stout though. hotstuff (3176), Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 9, 2003 This beer's appearance included a small sized tan head with fine-small bubbles that completely dissipated. The body was uncarbonated and opaque with a black hue.The nose of this beer was that of sweaty feet (oh yum) with a very mild coffee flavor. It had a smooth, watery and thin mouthfeel and it was light bodied. The lacing was very sparse. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 25, 2003 Pours a deep brownish black with a thin, brackish head. Nice nose on this. Seems spiced but also licorice, and hops. Not overpowering. Taste has some spice and hop character but has definite malt and ginger with a hint of cocoa. Perhaps some nutmeg as well. Surprisingly not as strong as I expected. Still good stuff though! RichardGretton (3153), Leicestershire, England
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 26, 2002 Slightly similar to some Belgian ales in flavour, but with a strong chocolate and coffee finish. The beer is very smooth which leaves a feeling of chocolate shavings on the throat. Overall the beer is better than OK. PorterPounder (3148), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 27, 2002 Heavy, smoky aroma which leads to a thick, black syrupy pour. Head is quickly dissipating with little lace. A little bit more bitterness than other Imperials and a bit more smoke flavor rather than chocolate. Excellent representation of the style. Why the clear bottle though?
