pitch black, large smooth light brown head. aroma of brown sugar, toffee, roasted malts, salty licorice, english licorice. flavor is brown sugar, toffee, burnt caramel, roasted malts, licorice, ends hard roasted and the roasetd flavor lasts for long. the flavor is a parade of flavors, each one topping at a different time, yielding a very intersting experience. time spent drinking this slowly is time well spent.

Bottle. Strong coffee and dark chocolate malt aroma. Dark black color with brown head. Chocolate malt, coffee and peat flavor - slight bitterness at end. Full bodied and smooth.

Huge brown head over opaque black body. Deep, soft, slightly acidic aroma of wild berries and licorice. Extremely harmonic. Soft, extremely smooth taste of licorice, burnt malts, and coffee, with some acidity and faint marzipan notes as well as wild berries again. Burnt, chocolatey aftertaste, slightly dry. Fantastic! This is a world classic. (0.355l bottle.)

In the bottle from HyVee CB. Pours dark dark brown to black with a concrete light brown dense head. Sour cream/cream cheese aroma. Has a very oily texture. Seems like cardboard and roasted cheese. Tarness and bitter chocolate at the end. Cloves and vanilla are here but muted. This is something I was looking forward to, but now I am a bit disappointed.

Aroma of soy sauce and port. Black with a brown head that lasted throughout the beer. Taste of coffee, bitter chocolate, port, soy sauce, and spice. Finish is short with bitter coffee. High ABV is not noticeable in the taste. A great beer, but I would prefer a brown bottle. After my sample of an aged bottle of one year, I had to lower my rating.

Much better than the common Guiness, but it should be as an imperial stout. That said, I don’t really get much more out of this than a regular stout. It is extremely dark and pours with an extremely small brown head that soon disappears. There is a bit of dried fruit in the aroma and taste. Some chocolate and coffee too. The aroma almost has a Apple/cider hint to it. The taste is good and full with a slightly sweet finish.

Bottle. Reddish-brown/black beer with a thin cocoa head. Sweet roasted malt aroma with a bit of chocolate. Roasted malt, sweet chocolate, and some coffee flavors. Medium body and very drinkable.

Deep black color with a ring of foam around the glass. Appealing aroma of raosted malt and fruit. The flavor is pretty much the same : roasted malt and fruit. Full body, slightly liquorous texture, soft carbonation. A classic.
