Initial smell of roasted barley, but also some detectable malt. A very thick body leads to a complex initial flavour, which subsides to a subtle yeasty flavour. I like this as much as the Oatmeal Stout, but I wouldn't say I like this more! If you've tried one but not the other, then try them both!!! GregClow (2499), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Rich aroma & flavour with notes of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, raisins and slightly burnt caramel. Full mouthfeel, with barely a hint of alcohol. Fantastic stuff. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 13, 2005 Bottle - Pours black with a nice tan head. Aroma is smoke, a touch of chocolate, roasted malts, and coffee. Flavor is mostly roasted malts and coffee, but some chocolate sweetness comes in an the finish is beautifully smoky and dry. On the palate this isn’t motor oil thick but thick enough to remember. Creamy on the tongue but dry on the finish. A nice imperial stout for the price.. Volgon (2489), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

One of the boldest, more complex beers that I have had. Brown sugar, chocolate, coffee, and many more flavors will club you over the head. If you like budcoorsmiller you will hate this beer. If you love chewy dark complex beers, this one’s for you! Mungo (2474), Southampton, Hampshire, England

Not sure what I got so excited about last time I tried this as I dont think I’ve ever liked sweet cardboard.. Strength noticeable and overly sweet with malt flavours verging on boiled and cardboardy. 2.6
May 04Massive vinous oaky sherry aroma with treacle, liqourice, chocolate and almonds, Very rich with thick sweet body. Very lively carbonation - odd contrast with the thick body. 4.1 FlacoAlto (2473), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 20, 2004 Pours a deep black color that is topped by a creamy head. Thick aromas of molasses, coffee, chocolate, and dense dark malts all are found in the nose. Surprisingly any roast malt character is pretty subdued. This beer has a light creamy mouthfeel, with a finish of roast malts. The taste is reminiscent of malt balls, with molasses notes up front. The finish is sweet but it is balanced by a burnt acidity, the combination of the two is quite good. I also get notes of espresso and burnt raisins. This is pretty good, I haven't had one of these in years, and hopefully I will revisit this one sooner rather than later. KAggie97 (2472), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 23, 2004 I, too, love dark beer, and this is no exception. Pours a lovely black with a brownish head. Very smooth for the style, but nonetheless makes its presence known in the aftertaste. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA

Coffee... a bit Bitter. Malt. Roasts. Thought this was very good and distinctive in its own right...would definilty save a bottle or two, but wouldn’t drink it all the time.
