Bottle. Black with a reddish brown hue and a medium creamy beige head. Roasted malts dominate with a liquorice and salty dominated profile. Medium bodied and smooth. Quite dry with a bitterfinish.

Wow, Major Alcohol Burn. Very dark opaque black. aroma of malt. lots of alcohol. I feel the buzz already after a half bottle. Aslight hint of licorice and not as much chocolate as I might have assumed.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a dark brown color appearing black in the glass. Medium head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, light fruity notes, chocolate and a faint smoky tobacco note. Taste is roasted malts, tobacco, smoke, coffee and a hoppy finish. Medium-full bodied. Quite good.

re-rate - o.k. i may have been a bit naive, this is a fine and quality IPS, but it holds no candle to some others of the style.......original: thee undisputed king of stouts! (in my book, at least, so far,) truly exceptional.

Very nice dark brown to black pour with a stoutly head (creamy, off tan color). Aroma was of roasted coffee and chocolate. Flavor was mostly chocolate and somewhat sweet. Mouthfeel was heavy and creamy with some carbonation. An enjoyable Impy.

Pours with an opaque black body topped by a thick lasting lt brown head with some lace. Rich, slightly sweet malty aroma with good roasty notes, hints of coffee and a touch of alcohol. Sweet roasty malt flavor with a touch of sourness and coffee/chocolate notes. A very slight alcohol flavor is evident. The finish is bitter sweet and roasty. Full bodied, smooth and slightly warming.

Imperial Stout Blind Tasting (11-16-02): Not reall dark for style. Ruby flashes. Head is a little thin, but pretty average for style. The aroma is big alcohol, sweet chocolate and roasty malts. The flavor is less heavy on the alcohol and is more sweet chocolate. Nice roasty malt underneath, hay-like almost. Really nice fruitiness. The mouthfeel seems a bit thin for style. Really sweet.
