Bottle. Pitch black colour with a nice bubbly lasting head. Aroma of burned malts, chocolate and coffee with a hint of liquorice. Great mouthfeel. The flavour is somewhat bitter with sweet dark chocolate and coffee, fruitiness of raisins and plums. Long aftertaste of burned malts and bitter-sweet coffee.

Almost opaque. Big brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, porto and chichorei. Bitter flavor with some sweetness, surprisingly fruity (grapes, mango). Long coffee bitter finish.

A Mes rate: 355cl Bottle from Selfridges. Only a month left before expiry but I guess thats a good thing. Shame about the clear bottle (why do they do that?). Love the old school label. Lots of alcohol in the nose but it’s really rather good. Typical stout all round but its a damn good one. Black as night and pretty much opaque. Shame about the head. Full bodied with nice chocolate malt and maybe a hint of banana and grass. Very roasty and toasty all round. Lots of malt and liqourice as you would expect. Creamy finish that gradually turns bitter with a polite nod to the alcohol but there is something that reminds me a plastic bags in there. Bin bags to be more specific. Shame about that. Faintly smokey in the finish too. Very good all rounder.

Pours completely black with coffee-brown head that stays and sticks to the glass. Aroma is toffee-like with some smoky tones. Taste is initially bitter, then the chocolate takes over. Quite dry mouthfeel. Long aftertaste with some sourness to it.

12 oz bottle-pours a cascading rich brown head and black color with red tint. Aroma is dark malt-chocolate, some fruit notes. Taste is dark malt-chocolate, licorice/busty/powdery mouth feel, some fruit notes, some earthy hops bite. Not my taste but nice. Thanks jwc215 for picking this out.
