Aroma is deep with chocolate, licorice. Taste is a bit burnt, with dark cherry licorice, burnt chocolate, and a slight bitterness. Feels a little oily on the palate, and its thick overall. Nose of Chocolate, coffee, molasses, vanilla, and all things sweet! Flavor is very smooth, with more of the aroma, and a touch of smoke. Very nice beer, but a little weak for an Impy. I haven’t quite figured that out yet, just kind of roasted. Silky, a bit bitter. I still like their oatmeal stout better. igneous1 (1374), Davenport, Iowa, USA

Nice smooth hoppy flavor with a nice smooth bitterness. Could use a bit more bitterness. RSRIZZO (1369), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jan 12, 2008 Aroma is deep, rich and sweet almost like a Barley Wine. Color is solid black with good carbonation and a tight tan head. Taste is roasted and sweet. It starts with a full body that goes down with a rich smooth feel. Finish comes in sweet raisin like taste, mellow roasted flavors then a very faint bitterness. In the after taste the raisin lingers a bit then fades to a chocolate taste. This is just an amazing Imp. Stout, its soo rich and flavorful that its almost like a Barley Wine. Its hard to believe its only 7% alcohol. ilovedarkbeer (1367), Dallas, Texas, USA

Very thick and aromatic. Great coffee flavor with hints of brownie. Medium chocolate brown head when poured. RE RATE INFO: This stout is a bit watery. The body is soft but not complex and is more like a dry stout. Still a great beer but not the best imp stout. I like mine more chewy. Sully (1367), Woolloomooloo, New South Wales, Australia

The only gripe can be where the beer is not up to scratch. This one? Jeeeesus, sensational. It presents itself in the glass as a dense and seriously assertive ale. The nose is rich and complex which is supported by the body and eventual mouthfeel. There is chocolate, coffee and deep burnt caramel to demonstrate the complex integration of an immensely brilliant beer. Everything about this one is an absolute champion. Into the top ten with a bullet.
