The beer is black with an off-white head. The taste is full roasty and stout like with just a hint of mild coffee. Very nice. anders37 (4691), Malmö, Sweden

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 6, 2004 Pours dark black, with medium tan head. Smells strongly of molasses, coffee, and chocolate. Tastes very malty, very strong, with hints of molasses, dark chocolate, and port. Finishes smooth, slightly bitter, and very malty. Great beer. My only beef is the clear bottles, although with beer this dark, UV light probably doesn't hurt it much. Lubiere (4529), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 25, 2005 Dark brown with reddish hues. Thin moka head. Nice chocolate aroma with doughy malt and light alcohol notes. Rich bitter chocolate with licorice notes, a bit short in mouth, but effective. Very nice IS. Nov. 2005, Mike’s place. A pleasant warm flavour without being too sweet. One of the Kolding Beer Fest beers I must find and give a closer inspection.
Re-rate: Holds up on closer inspection. Ernest (4487), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 23, 2002 Updated: Apr 14, 2006Head is initially average sized, frothy, brown, mostly lasting.
Body is black (but not opaque). Aroma is moderately malty (chocolate, caramel, toasted nuts), with notes of prune, toffee, vanilla. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, creamy
texture, soft carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Very easy-going and mild for an Imperial stout (one of the lowest ABV "Imperials", surely), but still pleasant. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Oct 17, 2002 August 01: Thickest brew I’ve ever had; like drinking milk, or.. well, something else thick. Black as night; brown head dies quickly. Very vinous nose, flavor has expected bitterness, coffee and chocolate notes, and some sweetness. Good, but I’ll take McNeills anyday.
Oct 02: Bumping it up a little; palate is certainly close to perfect, smooth and soft, then a hint of bitterness creeps in, then softens again into a gentle warmth, like a bubble bath. Great beer, and one of the more accessible Imperials out there. motelpogo (4394), Plzen, Czech Republic
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 21, 2003 i must have missed something about this beer. it had the right ingredients - port tobacco aroma, tasted of chocolate powder and compost. but it was very flat, far removed from the full and silky texture i expected. not that it was that bad
