| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 15, 2007 Aroma of chocolate and toasted malt, along with a hint of alcohol. Dark brown/black color with ruby hints at the edges. Ferocious tan head that laces. Medium mouthfeel. Starts with chocolate and coffee. A bit of sour followed by toasted malt. The malt tends to overpower the hop. There is some sort of fruit component accompanying everything; it’s almost apple. Not strong, just present. Interesting stuff. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 4, 2004 Lots of alcohol taste and smell. A little grape in the taste and aroma. Nice dark full body. Has a little smoky smell and a bitter finish. Overall, a solid stout. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 21, 2005 Sweet and malty aroma with plenty of roasted malts and minor hints of alcohol. Opaque black with decent tan/brown head that recedes slowly to cover. Roasted malts offset an intense sweetness leading to a slightly salty bitter finish. Some alcohol warming. Medium full body and smooth texture with engaging carbonation. A very straight forward and enjoyable strong stout. Bottle (clear). BBB63 (4267), La Porte, Indiana, USA

Vinous aroma, hints of bittersweet chocolate, molasses, leather, very complex. Surprising fruity undertones on the palate (plum?) and a serious roasted taste. Port like warmness and finished dry, great mouthfeel. Not an "over-the-top" Imperial like some American versions, just a darn good classic. cgarvieuk (4208), Edinburgh, Scotland

A liquid Christmas cake - sweet, dark, fruity, spicy, creamy, smooth. Toasted marzipan. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Rum and port. O my God, this is heavenly! An excellent after dinner drink. [4.0] Re-rate: Had this again as a comparison with Old Rasputin. The sweetness and complexity seemed to have gone, and (despite storage in the dark, and still being within date) a metallic quality had now entered the flavours. Hum! Moved down a few points.
