Carbonated bubbles are barely visible as they rise like distant stars in a sea of blackness. Aroma of roasted chocolate malt, coffee, and slightly hoppy bitterness. Initial flavor of sweet chocolate malt fading into a slightly hoppy full bodied creamy finish. A bit too sweet for the style, but still a very drinkable Stout. Pours thick and deep, dark brown, almost black. Short dull tan head. Flavors of bittersweet chocolate and coffee. Not for the weak of heart! soapbox (17), Alabama, USA

Has a strong aroma of mainly caramel and roasted coffee. Has a strong coffee taste with a syrupy feel. Just a great beer; way too strong for a beginner. RickTStiles (40), New York, USA

Moderately burnt malty aroma with plenty of very pleasing caramel. Rich flavor with bitter sweet chocolate, some coffee and just a bit of very well complimenting hops. Finishes sweet and satisfying. This is my personal standard for Imperial Stouts. I love this beer and will be enjoying it on a regular basis for many years to come. Dervock (181), Emu plains, Australia

As soon as I opened the bottle the rich roast malt aroma really hit strong. This increased with the pour.
The beer was velvety black and looked wonderfully rich.
This beer has been described as "liquid Christmas Pudding" and with the complexity of the flavours I can really understand why. The beer had rich fruity flavours and a bitter roast malt aftertaste soren2007 (8), USA does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 22, 2007 Updated: Sep 30, 2007What every imperial stout should be measured against. Smells of coffee, smoke, and chocolate. Very dark, but not completely opaque. It has a smoothness on palate and flavor that I have yet to find in an american stout. Heavily hopped to near perfection. It’s too bad a local bar doesnt have this on cask.

Tases very much like it smells. The alcohol % is present in the taste but it is balanced well with the rest of the beer. The palate on this is friggin’ incredible. It amazes me how Dark and rich this is but so EASY to drink.I notice some yeast and some hops in the after taste but not at all offensive. American micros should take note of this beer. This is how it’s done right here baby! I’ll have some more please! By far my favorite of the Samuel Smith’s that I have had. Go getcha’ self a four pack and throw down! hoplover (166), Corpus Christi, Texas, USA

The flavor was strong with malted barley, notes of chocolate and mollasses and smooth on the palate. Truly the best Stout I’ve had so far. I have a couple more famous Stouts on my list to try and well see.
