Mindblowingly beautiful beer. Black as night, with a beautiful brown soft, fluffy head.
Smell... ahhh. Sweet chocolate, cherry cordial scent. Extremely appealing!!!!
Oh man, fives all over the place. GREAT taste, unbelievably good! Delicious chocolate, roasted nuts, caramel, with the slightest hint of liquor-- really reminds me of a rich cherry cordial at christmas.
Great beer! I might even say it's a candidate for a session beer if you're not trying to outdrink your friends.

A chocolate nose, almost brownie-like, mixes with coffee and caramel. There is as massive assault of flavors that hit my mouth while tasting this... Coffee, liquorice, malt, chocolate, fruit, alcohol, yeast and a nice bitter finish. Gotta like something this complex. fasteddieIX (55), Rochester, New York, USA

This beer introduced me to the Imperial stout genre, and I have never abandoned it due to the well-crafted nature of it. It's best served a about 10 degrees below room temperature (maybe 60-65 degrees), and will put a smile on your face every time. It does seem a tad weak compared to Rasputin and is WAY weaker than World Wide, but this is a good thing for me as I can actually taste the subtle ingredients. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA

Mocha, caramel, bittersweet cocoa in the finish. Finish is a bit dry. Aftertaste has some nice plum & licorice. I think this is somehwere between a sweet stout and an Imperial Stout for the style. But who cares, all i know is this tastes absolutley divine! yesyouam (602), Fairport, New York, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 8, 2008 Samuel Smith’s Imperial Stout is a brown black ale with a dense brown head that leaves nice lacing. The aroma is mostly of sweet malt, but it’s also grassy and fruity. It smells so damn good! It has a medium-full body that’s smooth and surprisingly crisp. The flavor is not overwhelming: sweet baked cookies, licorice and baking chocolate with a nice dark roastiness. It’s a very pulled-together flavor. There is a lick of medicine in the finish. This is a mature Imperial Stout. Cajun (144), New Iberia, Louisiana, USA

Good malt/hops balance. Very well brewed stout. I’d like nothing more than a nice juicy steak from Mariner’s in Natchitoches, LA to go with this beer.
