Aromas of caramel and butterscotch, milk chocolate, coffee, alcohol, yeast and a faint fruitiness. Taste is creamy, smooth and buttery, with notes of butterscotch, sherry, chocolate, mildly roasted malt, coffee, and just enough hops to balance a pretty sweet stout. Very complex flavor -- delve deep to explore the rich variety of flavors or just let the butterscotch malt wash over your taste buds. Mouthfeel is rich and silky smooth. The old-timey label and clear bottle are pure Brit, it looks like an old patent medicine bottle. Charming. sirchris (42), Pennsylvania, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 15, 2005 Wow! I loved this one. From the moment I poured it I knew I would. It was so dark, deep chocolatey brown, with a bit of a tan/brown head. A malty, chocolate aroma, with some raisin and maybe burnt marshmallow. Great mouthfeel, full and maybe a little oily if that makes sense to anyone. Not in a bad way - just a little je ne sais quois. Anyways tastes great, roasted coffee, a little bit of the raisin and tartness with a great warming alcohol finish. Great stout! Adenila (950), Denmark
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 10, 2007 This stout is very drinkable.
Very dark, but yet clear appearance. Aroma is tons of raw liquirice with burned malts and some plesant spirit notes. Flavor is quite fruity for an imp stout, again with tons of bitter english liquirice that makes for a fine bitterness along with the sweet fruity esters. Finish is bitter. Overall its not as heavy as other imp stouts, which makes it very drinkable, and the palate is just smooth and delicious. beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 28, 2005 Clear colorless bottle from Whole foods. 7% ABV. Clear dark brown-black hued stout having average light brown head with excellent lacing. Soft carbonation. Lovely aroma of chocolate, coffee and burnt raisens. Full bodied that starts with creamy slight sweet malt with hints of coffee, burnt raisen and roasted malt with light bitterness and finishes dry with roasty sharp bitterness. Thank you Samuel Smith for an excellent Imperial stout. MrBrewski (42), Chaska, Minnesota, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Oct 9, 2005 Great stout, 550 ml bottle. Poured a very dark brown almost black with a large reddish brown creamy head with excellent lacing. This is a brew that if I saw across the room I would want to try it, it looked that inviting. Aroma was sweet, dominated by molasses, some ginger, lightly smoked and perhaps a ruby port. The taste was not quite as sweet as the aroma but it still had a roasted sweetness with molasses, a good spicy port (like whisker Blake, an australian example), some ginger and that lightly smoked flavor. Body was full, texture was creamy to almost syrupy (in a good way) and carbonation was soft. The finish was moderately sweet with a slight hop bitterness and that port like quality. I really enjoyed this brew. alabamajohn (67), Alabama, USA
