Sample of the 1999 version in March 2002: Dark black with beige head. The banana aroma is somewhat diminished if comparing to fresh samples. Full bodied and malty. Licorice flavour. Bitter finish. I’m not sure it gains so much on cellaring, so drink it when you can.

Oh yeah! Big burnt chocolatey flavor. One of my absolute favorites.

Very dark, roasted flavor that leaves a nice bitter aftertaste. Scares people who can’t appreciate anything but clear yellow beers.

I am not a big fan of most of Samuel Smiths products, but this offering is a heavy contender in the world of Imperials. The initial malty flavor dances away to a dulled bitter finish. Head retention is low, but that is what I like about these stouts.

SIMPLY WONDERFUL! It has a tad more of an alcohol taste then some imperial stouts but it is by far on of the best I.S.’s out there. Take it easy with this one an enjoy it slowly.

Heavy, smoky aroma which leads to a thick, black syrupy pour. Head is quickly dissipating with little lace. A little bit more bitterness than other Imperials and a bit more smoke flavor rather than chocolate. Excellent representation of the style. Why the clear bottle though?
