Its thick black colour makes it visually great. Its got loads of great flavours, all balanced perfectly. This is my 100th review, and dare I say it - possibly the best beer i’ve had yet! Not quite as strong as Brooklyn or Storm King but nice in that it is smooth and easy to drink. Not quite as dark- no alcohol in either aroma or taste. Deep red amber on sides of glass- otherwise pitch black. Not as oily as thier oatmeal stout- which I actually like better I think. Awesome roasted taste but not burnt or offensive- just all around good. rich42 (128), USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Sep 24, 2002 nose and flavors of blackberry and anise. little bit of chocolate - but not as bitter as in other imperials. alchohol is well hidden. body is fairly thick - little bit of malt - but not too much. am I crazy - or is there a bit of bubblegum in here someplace? quite good if not as "medicinal" as some russian imperials (stone’s comes to mind) OlJuntan64 (1267), Perth, Australia
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Aug 9, 2003 Deep Deep red brown translucent with large tan head. Predominantly roasted malt aroma with very interesting hints of dried fruits, port wine, bakers and vegemite yeasts. Medium very smooth fully stimulating body. Bold roasted malt, complex vinous and coffee flavours. Light surprising sparkling lifting medium bitter roasted finish. There's a faint chemical note on the front of the tongue about this one I can't quite place - kind of an acetone or bootpolish? Nevertheless a great way to wrap up the night rating beer with CapFlu and Kasta at Pub Italia in Ottawa. fatherpierre (62), Leeds, England

Rich and powerful, but not too heavy. I had it in the humid Massachusetts summer and it’s fantastic taste belied the folk wisdom thast stouts bare only for the winter. This is a special beer.
