Aroma is very pleasant with subdued coffee, bittersweet chocolate, toffee, caramel and deeply roasted malts. Taste is a wonderful mix of all those aromas and more. Velvetly smooth texture makes this a delight to sip and savor. This is a classic!!! haukur (684), Reykjavik, Iceland

Smooth taste with a bite, this is trully wonderful stuff but there is something lacking in my aspect ... Reid (1092), Salem, Oregon, USA

This is athe classic looking stout..black for the most part though mahogany accents round the edges appear when its held to the light..lovelly tan head..great looking lace.
The smell is dominated by the roasted, toasty malts, sweet black fruits, slightly milky.
Sweet when it first hits the tongue then a lemon rind bitter zestiness seems to clean that off the palate..then the esspresso coffee bitterness takes over..with creamy undertonesfinishes of with a nice hop kick at the back of the throat..alcohol is barely tastable.
An adventure for the taste buds, excellent on the palate.
ASn exceptionally drinkable Imperial Stout..maybe lower in alcohol than many others nowadays..but its big on taste and character.

Strong and thick, one of the better Russian Imperial Stouts. maltdog (518), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 12, 2004 Black as ink, with a creamy sepia head. The nose is a religious experience- concentrated deep, dark chocolate and cherry/berry aromas, charred wood, grape, candied orange peel, and currants. Incredibly mellow and creamy flavors of roasted malts, chocolate milk, molasses bordering on maple, cranberry, and vinous oaky vanillans. Glides oh-so-smoothly over the tongue and teases with lightly prickly acidity when swallowed. Long, not too bitter aftertaste of ground coffee beans and creme brulee with orange zest, and more than a hint of cognac or brandy . Weird as it sounds, this is a sexy beer. tidiaguy (168), Hawley, Pennsylvania, USA

Nose was rich toasty malts with hint of licorice and smoked fruit. Taste was robust malt and coffe mix, with a good bitterness on the finish. Warm, dry sensation plays well with the flavors. Great stout. ericmc83 (200), Arkansas, USA
