The malts are toasted, nutty with hints of dark chocolate and mild coffee. The flavor is extremely light on the smoke, which is good, with toffee and cola notes, even red grapes. Not too heavy on the palate with an extremely clean and refreshing finish. This beer is an A+ and a must drink for stout fans, and a good introduction for a stout novice. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jul 3, 2007 Bottled. A beer black as pitch with a fantastic brown head. The aroma is very strong with notes of roasted malt and liquorice, with a hints of alcohol. Tha flavour is roasty with liquorice, fruitiness and coffeish notes. Quite filling but very drinkable for an Imperial Stout. Strong body, with sweetness and some bitterness. Excellent, probably the best stuff from Samuel Smith’s. Skeegle (499), Maryland, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 20, 2007 Beautiful full body flavor with out the harshness of 10% alcohol beers. Super roast complex, very very chocolately. More like a strong stout, as it’s not an imperial at 7% but significantly more flavor than most single stouts. Fantastic. rmussman (905), California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 28, 2007 A excellent stout. Has a very strong roasted hops aroma. Pour is nearly pitch black with a nice dark head that slowly disappates. The head actually continued to grow and spilled over. Mouthfeel is quite smooth for a imperial stout and flavor is endless with lots of roasted spices. Carlus12 (361), London, Greater London, England
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 25, 2007 Bottle. Pours almost black with a decent cream head. Chocolate/coffee aroma with caramel and ripe fruits on the palate. Bitterness subsides whilst drinking. A good example of how an Imperial Stout is done. wataru (11), USA

Taste is a strong chocolate and coffee and I feels great density. Full body. Proper bitterness. malrubius (1004), Valley Stream, New York, USA

Chocolaty earthy mild port-like aroma. Complex flavors of chocolate, roasted coffee, raisins, port, earth, mild smoke with mild English hop bitterness. Medium-full body and medium-low carbo. Enticing and satisfying. Excellent. newshound (20), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 10, 2007 Bottle from Whip-In (South Austin, TX):
Pours dark, dark, dark black-brown with brown cherry foam that clears at the rim to show the tar-ish color. Like any good Imperial Stout from here to ever, it will remind me of Flying Dog’s Gonzo Imperial Stout (the holy grail?). This is somewhat thinner, less dense in volume and intensity. It has a zap even through the darkness. Swirls into a nice cover foam. As it warms, takes on a soy/salty aroma & taste. It expands bouquet-wise but doesn’t quench as it does while chilled. A hoppy smoke flavor arises when it warms. Drink Imperial Stouts and feel like a king!
