Strong bitter coffee taste. This would be a perfect breakfast beer. I could feel the alcohol burn on my lips but not in the taste. And so smooooooth!!! Gachupines (295), USA

Deep, soft, slightly acidic aroma of wild berries and licorice. Extremely harmonic. Soft, extremely smooth taste of licorice, burnt malts, and coffee, with some acidity and faint marzipan notes as well as wild berries again. Burnt, chocolatey aftertaste, slightly dry. Fantastic! This is a world classic. (0.355l bottle.) BeerBlockaid (548), Jacksonville, Florida, USA

Had to don the Sam Smith pinter for this. boh!. Darth Vader dark. Multi coloured mocha head, I poured this one big. Heavy bittersweet chocolate, some hazel nut and berrie flavour. Doesn’t Milka make a chocolate like this? I think so!! Simply smooth but big in taste. Perfect for making tunes. GarethYoung (1110), Glasgow, Scotland

The nose is rich and full, sweet chocolate aromas with some coffee, also has some smoothing aromas of fruit, cherry skin, plums, raisins and a touch of marmalade . Full and smooth mouthfeel with a bitter finish. Samuel Smith beers always leave me feeling that they are exactly how that style should taste, this has so much more subtlety than the vulgar, bludgeoning 45,000 IBU coffee attacks that imperial stouts can often be. From the first taste to the last I was blown away. While it doesn’t offer anything too exciting in terms of additions to the style, it’s a perfect example nonetheless. nwbeer (3), Anchorage, Alaska, USA does not count | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Sep 8, 2005 This beer is one of the best Imperials out there. Somewhat hard to come by in Alaska but well, well worth it.
