The only trick is to make sure you get a fresh bottle. Definitely stets the standard for Imperial Stouts! beeriodic (61), Longmont, Colorado, USA

Nice malty, sweet flavors balance out a little hop bitterness. Aftertaste is smooth and a little oily, with S.S.’s trademark yeast flavors that are so soft and full. As I drink it I imagine the old guy tending the timeless Yorkshire Square fermenting tanks and I'm very... thankful. One of my all-time favorites. thehoff (569), Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA

Great smell of coffee and bitter chocolate, maybe raisin. Great taste. Same as the bouquet. Very rich like cold espresso. Great mouth feel. The beer itself is very smooth and pleasing to multiple senses. Not as bitter as other imperials, and not as strong alcoholically. Awesome. Best of the Samuel Smith's, and they're all good. Very nice dark dark brown colour. Smells of coffee and sweetness. Tastes of sweet chocolate and coffee. Smooth. Very near perfection. splink48 (35), Fayetteville, Georgia, USA

Pours very dark (it comes in a clear glass, look at the picture), leaves a generous tan head. tastes great. DuffMan (2757), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada

Powerful aromas that mimic a glass of fine port: chocolate, raisins, plums, a little smoke essence. Delicious flavours of the same, plus some coffee notes and a well rounded finish. Pleasantly heavy mouth feel without being cloying. This beer is as close to perfect as I’ve had. Outstanding! Cybercat (797), Georgia, USA
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Apr 14, 2007 The beautiful sable color and moderate head are attractive, and the decidedly stouty aroma with a strong caramel overtone cries "You will drink me, and you will enjoy me!" Flavor is rich and malty, and has caramel hints and a touch of smokiness. It goes down with a smooth, pleasant finish that has only a whisper of bitterness. Very satisfying, this is a must for all porter and stout fans! TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jan 25, 2006 Sam Smith Imperial Stout pours to an ink black color with a thick and creamy tan head, and a soft carbonation. The nose on this beer is just jam packed with a multitude of aromas. Dark chocolate, espresso coffee, sweet malt, licorice, and roast. The palate is rich and decadent on the tongue with intense flavors of dark chocolate, licorice, black currants, and coffee. Sam Smith Imperial Stout finishes with more complex dark malt and roasty flavors, and and slightly warming, dry and roasty.
