The first quality I noticed is its syrupy constitution. Completely black with a thick brown head, the aroma instantly reminded me of Kahlua. Fairly malty with a strong cocoa flavor that is reminiscent of Nestle Quik powdered drink mix. Very thick, rich and heavy, this is also quite smooth. It was late, so I split a bottle with Fishman; had I finished the bottle, I think the sweetness may have gotten to me and my rating would be lower. I’ll see how I feel after drinking an entire bottle before passing final judgment on this beer. Until then...

Pitch black, and with aromas of burned sugar, raisins and chocolate - delicious

Thick, malty, roasted, and fantastic. One of the best of the Smith beers. Will knock the novice for a loop, especially if they are expecting draft Guinness or Murphy’s. Lovely black color.

Black. Thick palate. Bitter and roasty flavour. Aftertaste is almost salty.

Fantastic! A licquorish tang at the finish follows the sweet black coffee taste.

A disapointing appearance, as the head is very thin and doesn’t last all that long. I really enjoy the flavor though. There’s a hint of roasted aftertaste that I don’t much appreciate, but I’d imagine it’s one of those things that would grow on me. A great stout.

Colorful head that disappeared quickly. Medium to full body for an Imperial. Chocolate, coffee, black licorice. Slightly sweet. Very little alcholic bite. Excellent brew.

Excellent Imperial. Dark dark brown in color. Nice creamy beige head that slowly disapated before my first swig. Malty/Roasty aroma that has some slight chocolate/alcohol notes. Smooth roasty start with a nice full/silky palate. Nice hop bitterness finished the beer. Alcohol well hidden.
